That was a surprisingly good video. He makes a good point about success factors. The most successful people usually aren't the ones who reach for the sky, they're the ones who aim to make it up the first step, and then once they get there, they aim to make it up another step.
Back in 2010, I set the big new year's resolution of hitting a 60kg OHP, 100kg BP, 140kg squat, and 180 DL. It didn't happen. This year, my goal is simply to compete in each local Powerlifting Australia meet, and organise my training so that I hit PR's every time. Several 5-10kg PR's on the squat and deadlift, and even just 2.5kg PR's on the bench press, will have me filling out big numbers over a year or two. There's a meet here in 4 weeks time. It'll be the first of the year, and the first I'll have ever entered. My current PR's are 140/90/160. So, my great big goal is to hit 142.5/92.5/162.5, if not more. The 2013 calendar isn't up yet, but the meets are usually about 3 months apart, so then I'll have 3 months to get 2.5kg more than whatever I get at this meet. Little steps, but they add up over time.
