Going to change my habit, again..

Hi all, joining a weight loss forum to encourage me. I recently relised I've put on a bit of weight - gone from a 32" waist to a 36" in jeans. I was previously a 38 before a 32, due to a lifestyle change, I had no friends when I moved from home and when I moved back decided I wanted to be more confident - ditched the play station, started going to the gym 5 times a week.

I think my recent weight gain was triggered by my first girlfriend cheating on me 1- I've always been bad for comfort eating due to bullying among other things. I'm from Scotland and went to the US last October and Ibiza this June and since October I have not returned to the gym to ditch holiday weight. I started hating myself when I was forced to buy new jeans and I came to the relisation I needed a 36 Jean but after seeing a photo of me relatively skinny and happy, I thought to myself, I've done it before, why can't I do it again?

So here I am thinking about all the things I want to do on my gap year - not travelling, but working hard both in my work life and on myself so I can be happy and confident before University.

Good luck everyone!

Hi, that's great that you've decided to lose weight again. If you have problems with comfort eating, you might want to address your emotional problems first, because that's what causes it in the first place—I feel bad, and eating will make me feel better. Work on your self-esteem. Losing weight is easier when you're confident in yourself. Also, if you get the urge to comfort eat, do something else you enjoy instead, like going for a walk, reading a favorite book, or something like that. Wishing you the best :)

Below is the extract from a mail post from a weight loss email course relevent to this subject:

We've all been there. It's late. You should be brushing your teeth
and going to bed. Instead, thoughts of chips, cookies, corndogs
(what? where did that come from?!?), and other sinful goodies invade your mind.

But wait! Before you give in, try these first!
• Drink a glass of water. See? The craving's almost gone...
• Go and brush your teeth. Heck, gargle with some strong mouthwash even. Anything you try to eat after this is bound to taste bad!
• Keep your hands busy! Send email; solve a puzzle; knit; anything
• Step out. Walk the dog or just go around the block.
• If you must... grab a crunchy, but healthy, alternative like an apple.
