Getting toned without going to the gym

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum so please be nice :)

Basically I've always been on the chubby side, even as a kid, even though I used to do 'sports' such as tennis and horse riding (some might say that's not a sport haha I'm not too sure either).

I've recently lost around 20pounds and I am down to 9 stone and 4 pounds (130lbs) and want to get to 119 lbs in 1-2months (I am 5'4, 22 years old).

The thing is I've always had horrible connective tissue and everything looks a bit 'sad' on me (saggy and flat bum, cellulite on rather chunky legs etc.) and I would like to lose some inches and tone up especially on the legs and bum.

I'm a student so I can't really afford the gym..are there any excercises I could do at home? If I combine that routine with jogging for 40 mins 3 times a week would that be a good work out routine? How many times a week should I do the excercises? And how long would it take to see some results?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi Rere,

Search around for bodyweight training exercises. They'll provide you some good options for working out at home without having to buy a lot of expensive equipment.

Good Luck!

Hey Rere,

hawkeyejw is right, searching for bodyweight training exercises is a good idea... there are plenty out there! Here are a couple of links to get you started:

Free Exercises, Exercise Instructions, Custom Workout, Personalized Workout, Ab Exercises, Abdominal Exercises, Training Programs

Fitness.com Exercise Videos

Try making a list of 8-12 exercises that, all together, cover the whole body. Start with one set of maybe 8-12 reps of each, then build up to 2, maybe 3 sets. Make sure you rest for about 30 sec between sets. Do this 2-3 times per week.

If you have any health or other physical concerns, injuries, check with your doctor before starting an exercise program.

I was just reminded of the tabata workout in another thread, it takes four mins. I forget the specifics of that but if you look that up, i'm sure you'll find good info. Othrwise interval training is good too. If you want a good source of knowledge for body weight exercises, google Matt Furey. He has some pretty creative workouts.
