Getting rid of my Belly

I am trying to get rid of my gut that I have built over the last several years. Heres a little History. I was 330+ went on low carb and started exercising and lost 100 lbs and kept if off for several years. Then stopped excersise and went back to poor eating and its all back at age 40.

I want to do abb exercises to loose my gut but remember one time hering that you have to loose the fat before you work on the abbs or it will make it impossible to take of the gut. They claimed that building abb muscles before shedding the fat would make it harder to loose the gut. ( I am hoping this is BS)

I am doing 30-45 mins a day of cardio (heart rate of 150) and although I am over 300 lbs (5'10") am feeling much better and wanting to get rid of my gut. Can I move on to abb exercises to get it coming off? I have a slant board and am ready to start doing crunches....if it will not delay me from shedding this stomach. Hope to get some tips.

I can assure you that is completely wrong. It's actually the other way around as the new muscle will burn energy on its own.
Be wary though - building your abs will make you optically more fat - you'd better have some serious follow through to get rid of your fat tissue then.

Jarous is right about muscle burning energy on its own. That means adding muscle will help you lose fat. So I'd try to add muscle all over. You should strengthening your whole body, not just doing cardio.

I think you need to start working the abs NOW. Don't wait for anything. As far as bigger abs making you more optically fat - well, that's true, but even the biggest most ripped bodybuilders have abs that stick out only an inch or so. Abs can get very cut, but never really big. No one has abs that pop out like the biceps will. Abs just don't grow that way.
