Getting past the looks of a 240lb girl running!

So theres nothing really crazy about a 240lb girl running is there? Im a heavy (going to use the word heavy, because its not nice to call yourself FAT) girl, but im tired of walking, tired of waiting for my pounds to start dropping again... so im kicking it up a notch. Such a bad thing? I dont think so... but maybe you can give me some tips on how to kick up my weight training another notch. Looking forward to some support and ideas.

what is your diet like?

are you only walking now?
try some HIIT.. do a quick search of the forum if you are not sure what that is.
also, you should add some strength training. do you do any type of strength training with weights now?

.. but no, there is nothing at all crazy about it! good luck on your goals!

No no. I am running now. Run as long as I can.. then walk to catch my breath.. then run again... or at least 30-60 minutes. I try to at least do 4 miles at a time. It took me some time to get breathing under somewhat control.

Diet.. not perfect. not horrible. Back in February of last year I started my journey... was doing really great.. down almost 60 lbs. (started at around 300) YUCK! I KNOW! Then life set in, the living on your own... BILLS! you know all the crap that follows with the real world!

So been back for a few months now, haven't changed eating habits. Just been working my ass off at the gym, the scale hasn't budged, I dont torment myself everyday with weighing myself, only on Fridays. I've shed some inches, but no pounds, but im assuming thats because of weight training.

HIIT! My god! lol im going to try it at the gym this afternoon, However, from the sounds of it, I might pass out. But im not stranger or scared cat to try anything twice.

just do the beginner stage of HIIT.. only takes about 20 minutes. I'm sure you'll be fine!

My advise.. honestly.. would be to throw out the scale! I step on there once in a blue moon.. maybe once a month, if that. If you have lost inches, that means you are doing something! Judge by the way your clothes fit, not the scale. :)

Diet is key though. i would suggest starting a diary/log of what you eat, start a thread in the diary section and correct things day by day as you go.. that's what i do.

Yes, i do weight training. I work alot so its been hard to get on a set schedule. But I do weights before cardio, (just changed that like a week ago), and I have more energy for my cardio... so out of the 4/5 days a week at the gym, at least half is weight training and cardio.. the other days are just cardio.

And lately! I've been drinking more beer then I should. Whats a good alternative for alcohol, b/c beer is LOADEDDDD with CARBS! And after working out as hard as I do, I end up drinking it away!

I knew that might have been your answer. We'll Im heading to Cancun in 19 days! (can you tell we're counting the days).. well YES, I'll be drinking the whole time im there, and YES I do plan to hit the fitness center there to keep me going... AND Yes, I know I need to give up drinking, but whats a 23 y/o supposed to do. Go out and drink H2O... Yeah your right, Sacrifice, and If I have to give it up for now, it wont be for good... b/c once im under control. I'll be under control and thats that.

So dear bartender... may I have a stiff H2O on the rocks?!

haha.. i understand, believe me. i'm just 24 myself.. and i'm def not saying i dont drink at all, but i do in moderation.. and i dont mean one here and there.. i mean like a lot one day then not again for a while hehe..
my friends give me a hard time all the time. i spend friday nights in the gym, not the bar.. sat nights too usually. eh, they say im boring.. so what..

Yeah your right. I'd rather be boring right now at 23... and take a year or so of being boring... b/c when i drop these 100 or so pounds, thats im finalllllllly ready to give up.. Im going to be a TOTAL KNOCK OUT! and you are too!

Thanks for all your information! I look forward to supporting you along your way as well!

Cheers!

just keep in mind its a lifestyle change lol..
dont just get to your goal and throw it all away!
maintenenceis often the hard part.

Mini trampolines, I don't use them but they are meant to kick ass! Also swimming is an exellent idea. Keep it up remember exercise is cool and fun.

Ah! Im a Florida girl... so the pool was always my 2nd home. But now, thats all changed because theres only 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week, and I work all 7 and usually about 12 of the 24... which sucks!!! Im not the heavy girl that you wont see at the beach, because i dont care what the other people have to say.. I may be the only chunky butt out there but thats b/c Im me. I don't hide. Yeah I've created this beast, and Im going to be the one to get rid of it. So many of my friends have mentioned surgery, and im like yeah surgery is for the weak. For the ones who just want to buy their thinness.. buying thinness isn't buying Health, and thats what I want.

thank you thank you thank you.
i have a friend that had lap band surgery but refuses to eat right and it has done no good what-so-ever.
what the heck do you do to work so much???

Yea weight loss surgery is for the weak. Its a quick answer, but those who do it still dont know how to eat right nor do they exercise. SO whats the point? I still don't understand. If you have your mind set to wanting to change your life you will. Yea of course you'll have obstacles, like these past 5 months have been for me. BUT!! Those who are determined, will overcome whatever stands in the way.

work... I live on my own right now, and with being in culinary school, I work 2 jobs now. Running the family business and helpping some friends at their resturaunt. Serving a few days, and cooking in the kitchen a few. Its fun... change of pace...BUT tiring... definately takes a toll on energy... so thats why Im SOOO Looking forward to vacationing in Cancun with my friends.

But I gotta run... about to leave work.. gotta head to the gym... Better go print HIIT before I leave.... Later. =)

First, get your doctor's ok before taking it to the next level. Remember, training should be done in conjuction with a diet. Good luck, and most importantly, have fun and enjoy what you are doing to improve your health - firstly, and you appearance (secondly).

Yes of course. Already talked to the Doctor. She's already told me to keep up the good work.

As of yesterday, I've given up the alcohol. =( (Until vacation in Cancun in 18 days)... then when I get back, back to being a boring non-alcoholic. ha. just kidding.

Sacrifice, sacrifice.

Thank EVERYONE, for all their support!

Just remember that you'll have to eat/work out this way for the rest of your life if you want to keep the body you'd worked so hard to attain.
