Getting in shape in the off season of rugby.

This past year I played rugby, but I always found like I was tired 5 minutes into the game. I want to get in shape for next year.

Apart from running, what can I do to help keep my breath?

Any cardio exercise will help you. You need to increase your stamina and endurance. So runnng is good, look into some running routines, cycling, rowing machines, they will all help to increase your endurance. As your chosen sport is rugby, obviously running is going to be most beneficial as it the action you do in that sport.
Weights training will also help develope muscles and can also increase endurance.
Hope that helps a bit, if you're after anymore info, just check out my site

Rowing machine. I think my gym has one. What exactly does that work?

Well you've said you would get tired after about 5 minutes? The rowing machine is a cardio workout machine. So it will help increase your cardio capacity.
As I said previously though, your sport is rugby, so the most beneficial exercise for you will be jogging and running, although, rowing, cycling and so on will all help.

Jogging three times a week will improve your cardio conditioning. First, make sure your heart is healthy. Get a physical because it's hard to play rugby when your dead.

So I tried the rowing machine, and it didn't seem to do much. It didn't make me low my breath at all, but it did give a little pump feeling to my shoulders. I don't think I was doing it right, I'll just get the trainer to show me how to do it.
