Getting in shape Fast!

I am joining finlands mandatory army in january 10. I have to get in the best possible fitness I can and Im ready to do what it takes!

Please help

You'll have to be more specific. Let us know where you are now, and where you need to be by Jan.

Glad to help if I can.

Ok, about last summer 2009 I quit all my bad habits. This included smoking, drinking, eating poorly and bad rest. Ok I have been since then eating well, no junk food at all. I have been excercising since then, but I had a hiatus in the winter for two months or so. So I have come from a very bad start.

I run every other day about 20-30 minutes with a average heart rate of 160. Im 64 Kilos, 182 cm tall and 20 years old. So what I will be needing is the best endurance I can get. Im not totally out of the bushes, but Im not that well in shape either. I will need some muscle excercise too, but I wont stress that much about that and try and get the best endurance I can get

Sry about the grammer and incoherence, but Im just so excited to hit this hard and go all the way.

So any advice on how to boost / better my cardio I think its called and endurance

P.S. I do have a heart rate watch so if that can be integrated with any former knowledge thats great.

Your best bet for quickly increasing you endurance is intervals. Do a search on HIIT but lower intensity intervals will help as well. Even long distance endurance athletes do intervals now as it's pretty well established they're a much quicker way to increase both anaerobic and aerobic capacity than simply running more.

Looks great. Do you think I should worry about nutrition? However I drink a glass of chocolate milk after each time or should be something else, more less? I found out my watch has an interval timer so it all fits well,

Cant wait to try this out, Thanks!

I don't believe you can increase endurance quickly. All the triathlete coaches I know instruct their clients to spend many hours (10+) doing primarily long steady distance (LSD) workouts. Intervals and HIIT are generally incorporated into triathlon training after the client has a strong base of LSD training. Triathlons are all about endurance; speed is generally irrelevant in a triathlon.

Well, I understand that I am not going to gain anything signifigant or become a world class atlhete.

So what is my best bet onto maintaining a increasing my fitness? Is it HIIT or LSD training?

Whoa, just came back from running with HIIT method. It knocked the ***** out of me! It was great. I ran 5 min warmup, 1 min I ran relatively fast and 30 sec light jogging. I looked back and my heart rate was higher in the 30 sec intervals.

I kind of kept hitting walls.

Would it be better to just push regardless of that feeling, is that the spirit of the training, like. Or should I keep slowing down as I feel so?
