I am doing a half marathon race in 5 weeks and I've been training for 11 weeks specifically for it. I have done one before and this one will be to improve time and really see what I can do-as I didn't train specifically for the other one. I had never gone above 8 miles when I ran my other race and about mile 10 I literally hit the wall and had the "runners shuffle" for the last 3 miles of it. I am hoping I am much more prepared this time but I want to know if anyone has used gels or other nutritional supplementation during running or endurance activities. If so, how you liked it or thought of it. I mean truth be told the idea of pumping straight sugar into my blood makes me cringe. I dont care how hard I'm working out! But if its worth it, I thought maybe I should pack a few packets of it for this race to help me through those last miles as I really feel that previously it was a nutrient issue, not a physical one.
I'd love some thoughts on this or any other words of wisdom from similar experience. I really don't just want to run this. I want to RACE it!
