Okay, I'm confused. I never thought spices had calories in them, but I looked up garlic powder just now on a bunch of different websites (calorieking, dailyplate, etc) and I'm getting so many different answers! Some say 0 calories, some say 28 calories per tbsp...anyone know what the answer is?

Thanks!
Nicole

Everything has calories. But things that you eat very little of (like spices) generally have so few calories per serving, that they're listed as 0.

For example, one clove of garlic contains about 3 calories. Most people don't eat more than 1 clove at a time. Even if you put 3 cloves in a recipe, that's still less than 1 per serving by the time it's divided out. So it's hardly worth counting 1.5 calories or less. :)

For probably the most accurate counts, the USDA database is here:

The answer is really not worthy of counting the calories on. Unless it contains fat or you are loading it up then its next too nothing.

1TBSP of Garlic Powder has 28calories which 84% is for carbs and 14% is from protein. All spices and herbs have calories but just not enough to worry about unless you use ALOT.
