Gaining Weight or Getting Skiny First?

I've seen people get fat first then lift and lose the weight. What about getting skiny first then bulking up and getting ripped. Is there a advantage one over the other one. This is for someone that wants to look like Pitt in Fight Club. Sorry if sounds stupid. Thanks

Thats what I was doing, I was trying to get fat then start lifting. After run and diet in order to get lean. Because my body was too puny thats why I am trying to gain weight. he went from Fat to skinny to ripped. I am to get lean like Brad Pitt in Fight Club. I know this isn't gonna be a over night thing.

You are totally on the wrong track.

It is not about 'getting skinny then getting fat' or vice versa.

Both 'skinny' and 'fat' are unhealthy states to be in.

If you want to gain miscle mass, you must do that first. You cannot gain muscle and drop fat simultaneously (well you can but only to a certain extent, depending on your current body fat %).

If you want to gain muscle mass, do that fist, then concentrate on ripping after.

If you dont want to gain muscle mass, then dont try to get 'fat' or 'skinny', just eat healthy!

Just start building the muscle. The more muscle you build, the fat will start to go away. Do your cardio, lift heavy, and eat right - your body will take care of the rest.

Would running alot be a no no. If I was wanting to get lean. For example lift, then run 3 miles. Or get the muscle first, then run. Also I've heard too much running will lose mucsle. Is this true? Thanks for the replies.
