Sport gainer or protien for new program?

Sport Fitness
Hi folks. My first post here but I've been lurking around the forums for a few years

I recently started training properly again. When I started a few years back I was 21, 6foot7 and the skinniest guy alive. I have always eaten well so I supplemented my diet with NLarge weight gainer and really got great results

Now I am 27 and have tried using that same routine and gainer that worked so well for me but I have found I am putting on more fat than muscle. I guess I'm getting old

so here's my question...

I have always done a 3 day split on weights. Now I am adding in 2 days of cardio (rowing and swimming). My gym sessions are during lunchtime so I always keep them short and as intense as possible

Should I switch my weight gainer for a regular protein powder to help drop the fat? Seems silly to be taking extra calories in while I am also trying to burn them off, but I don't want to lose too much muscle

I asked 3 trainers at the gym and got 3 different answers so any help is really appreciated

Simple answer, don't take a gainer unless you are trying to gain.
Even then you probably don't need it unless you are a hard gainer.
