gain weight/tone abs

Hi everyone,

A little about myself. I am 30 years old.. 5'2 120 .. i am best described as petite.

I have been trying to put on weight for the past year now without any success. I have tried mostly all the protein drinks and mass drinks at gnc . Unfortunately i didnt get any results and after a while I couldnt stomach the smell of them.

I recently have found an ensure drink that i like the tatse of, so I drink those once a day.

I have ordered weight gain pills in the past and followed a strict diet , and nothing. well heres my dilemna.

Well im trying to gain about 5-9 pounds .. flatten my abs, and keep the size of my breast..

what excersize can i do at home to flatten my abs, without buring calories?

also, for clarification. I know a lot of people say that muscle will make you look bigger, but believe it or not i actually want the water weight. To look a little more thick. Moreso in thighs and glutes.

I stated that I dont want to lose my breast because i notice that most women who work out , they lose the weight in their breast.( im a 34b) i would like to remain that size or hopefully get bigger, but thats another story.

also, my friend stated that since i have never had kids then I should be able to lose the fat quickly

any suggestions?

Hey and welcome to the forum!

Sorry to inform you, but you won't be able to control where the fat comes from when you are trying to lose fat. It may or may not come from your breasts, you will just have to wait and see.

You talked about shakes and ensure, what else to you eat/drink during the day?

My advice would be do to strengthening for your whole body to achieve your goals... are you working out at home or at a gym?

Hey ! If you want flay stomach you need to do alot of cardio . I see you dont want to lose calories but i will say that is imposible if you want visible abs , actually you will lose fat not muscles. The best way to burn your fat is to do cardio on empty stomach when you get up coz at that time glycogens are empty too so you can burn your fat directly. My suggestin for you if you want fast results is to but L-carnitine.There is one potencial problem there, catabolism risk that you will lost your muscles , for that my suggestion for is BCAA in this case you will you use it as anti catabolic, and you will block catabolism for sure. With this tips results will come fast ! All the best !

L-carnitine, while working in theory to help burn extra fat, has never once shown to provide any actual positive results. It's a useless supplement.

I know more about the exercise side of things than the nutrition side, but one thing that's for sure is that if you want to gain weight, you need to eat a caloric surplus. If you want it to be muscular weight, then you need a good portion of your calories to come from both fat (preferably healthy fats) and protein, and you need to work on getting stronger. You don't normally need to use protein supplements to build muscle mass, although they're a useful tool in the shed. Most of my protein comes from meat and milk.

I second everything our admin PLBFitness has said, and there's a few good full body programs in the stickies around the forums, a couple of them by me (one in the Young Athletes Development section and one in the Weight Loss section), however they may not be appropriate for you, depending on what training equipment you have available, and any health concerns or injuries you may have. You'll need to make a judgement call on whether or not a specific program is safe/practical for you to do, and go from there.
