This happened to me today. I'm SUCH an idiot!
Anyone else out there have a similar funny story? Here it is:
Normally I bring my lunch to work with me, but I don't know where my head was this morning, so I forgot it. Needless to say I had to pick from the many little restaurants found near my place of employment. Don't get me wrong... there are several choices within a VERY short distance and 99% of them serve really yummy foods. You know the ones: HUGE portions, fat and calories crammed into every bite... oh but how tastey they are!![Biggrinjester :biggrinjester: :biggrinjester:](/forum/styles/smilies/biggrinjester.gif)
I decided to go to the chinese buffet place because it's 1-very close (same building), 2- very fast (walk to the front of the line....there's always a line... grab one of the "to-go" containers, fill it up, weigh it, pay and leave) 3- I'm able to control portion size and there HAD to be something healthy there right?, and finally 4- because it's super cheap (today's lunch cost me $2.48 with tax).
So I go in and grab the styrofoam "to-go" container (you know the ones with the 3 divisions). Anyway I head first to the salad bar area... load up the big portion with lettuce and then look at the choices for toppers... hmmm lots of cheeses, bacon bits, olives etc etc. I pick some sliced mushrooms and bypassed the rest of the high-fat options. So far so good... go to the dressing area... hmmmm... ranch and thousand island- out of the question- Can't stand italian and there are no low-fat or non-fat options. Two choices left: French or Honey Mustard... I decided to go with the honey mustard... just a little bit, it was a little on the thick side, but I wasn't too thrown off by that.. I was pretty happy I didn't completely drown the lettuce
Next I rounded the corner to the fruit side of the salad bar area and filled one of the smaller sections of the container with watermelon, pineapple and orange wedges. Good... next came the main area.... looked up and down for ANYTHING not deep fried or covered in gooey sauce... Found some sushi. Took one peice of sashimi, topped it with a peice of pickled ginger. Then 3 boiled shrimp and a grilled chicken skewer.
I was feeling pretty darn proud of myself for picking foods that were the better of the choices I had in front of me... before I would have loaded the container with all the deep fried, gooey sauced stuff I could find.
Anyway went back to the lounge at work and sat down with my lunch and a diet coke (yeah I know I know... I rarely drink pop though). I mixed up my salad to spread the little bit of dressing as evenly as possible and dug in... fork full of lettuce, mushroom and honey mustard dressing. Imagine my surprise when my mouth lit on fire, my eyes started to water and my nose felt like it was going ot burn off!!! It turned out that the "honey mustard" was, in fact, CHINESE HOT MUSTARD!!!! Holy Moly!![Flamin :flame: :flame:](/forum/styles/smilies/SaiyanSmilie_anim.gif)
I felt like SUCH an idiot!!! Who knew they put the hot mustard with the salad dressings?? Suffice it to say I downed the coke very quickly and ate the rest of the lunch avoiding the salad as much as possible... lol (And I LIKE hot mustard... just not as a topping to salad)![Smilielol5 :smilielol5: :smilielol5:](/forum/styles/smilies/smilielol5.gif)
