Frustrated!!

I am at a weight loss plateau!! I started at 155 lbs, 1 year ago. I was down to 135 lbs, but gained 10 back in 10 days on vacation :-(. So now I am struggling to lose it again, I can not break below 140. My goal is 130 lbs (I am 5'5", 33 years old, female).

Question is, am I eating too few or too many calories? I am currently doing Beachbody's Insanity and training for a half marathon also. So I do Insanity 6 days/week plus run 4 days/week. I had been eating 1400 cals/day, but just increased it to 1500/day because I was getting shaky after Insanity and did not have any energy for the run. I have cut out all sweets, alcohol, and fast food. And I am feeding the family vegetarian several nights a week. I have read conflicting things about how many calories to eat and still lose weight.

Thanks for the help. It is just frustrating to work out soooo hard but not see the number on the scale move, and not have my clothes fit any better. If I was losing inches but not weight, I would be OK with that, but I am not losing either. Any advice would be great.

Thanks,

Jenny

Any thoughts?

What does "Insanity Training" consist of?

How much running are you actually doing?

Insanity is high intensity interval training-intense plyometrics, moving pushups, suicides, basketball drills, high speed jumping jacks etc, with only 30 second breaks in between intervals. My heart rate was up to 205 the other day, but usually maintains at 160-180 during the workout, which are between 35 mins-1hour depending on the day. I am running 10-20 miles/week. When I run on the treadmill it is usually at a 6-7 and then i try spurts on 8.

This is my 3rd week doing Insanity, before that I was just running for about 1 month, before that I did 2 rounds of P90X (which is weight lifting) and running. My high weight (non pregnancy) was in Nov. 08 so it has taken me 1 year to lose a net of 14 lbs, weight just doesn't like to come off, but loves coming back!! After my first child was born I was 185 a couple months out, but I was able to lose that fairly quickly. I guess that is why I don't understand while the last 11 won't come off.

The nutrition book that comes with the program says I should eat 1900 cals/ day to lose 2 lbs/week, but since I am not losing at 1400/day I find that hard to believe.

Hopefully that helps.

Thanks,

Jenny

Smart.

I just read this now. I'd say you were over-stressing your body quite a bit. Beating your body into submission is not the solution.

Good job.

How much is over stressing your body?
A couple of weeks ago, i wasn't losing any weight, my exercise consisted of:
-Gym 3-4 days a week
-2 Cardio classes, mostly with a workout before it
-2 Kung fu classes (1.5hrs)
-Swimming 2-3 times a week.

I had to cut right back for 2 weeks because of study
-Gym 2 times a week
-Kung Fu.
And I've lost some weight.
Another difference is that I started tracking my cals more with fitday and fixed my nutrition. So now my question is, was I stressing my body too much, or was it because I probably eating too much. I now eat 1600 cals a day, give or take 100.
Maybe I should start a new thread? Or i'll pm if it doesn't get answered.
Thanks!

Jenny -

I understand your delima.. I was there too. I started out this year @ 255lb! and got down to 230 w/ doing a Xfit (p90) style training. I had to eventually switch gears and find out how to get my body into a "fat burning" stage. It's been a rewarding path and maybe one your should consider.

Thanks guys! I looked in the mirror this morning and I am actually starting to see definition in my stomach!!!! I'm starting to think that it is possible for someone who has had 3 children to have nice looking abs again!!

I think I need to focus on eating healthy and remembering I can do more physically right now than I ever have in my life instead of the number on the scale. Maybe then I can enjoy my physical improvements instead of worrying they are not good enough.

Great job Jiminidaho, keep up the great work. How did you get your body into the "fat burning stage"?

Have you ever had your body fat analyzed? You sound like you're at an ideal weight to me. Your exercise program could have built up bone & muscle, which are denser than fat. The number on the scale is just one way to measure health.

I have not had it professionally analyzed. I have one of the scales that measures body fat. I know they aren't extremely accurate, but when I started it said 36% body fat and now it says 26%. So at least I am going in the right direction.

I really think I need to lose a few more pounds. My arms and legs are toned, but I can still grab a handful (or two) around the middle-gross-and would love to get rid of it. I can't see how without losing a few more. If I could lose it without losing weight I would have no problem, if I was 140 lbs of pure muscle there would be no complaints here!!

Thanks for all the advice!
