I had lost 50 lbs years ago and kept it off until last year. I emotionally hit rock bottom and gained all of what I lost plus some back I’m trying to lose weight without buying the expensive food replacements I bought the first time.

from your name... live with kids?
are you in control of your food?

Hi, Mamaof3 & welcome to the forum. Meal replacements are expensive & teach you nothing for the long-term. You are better off trying to find a long-term, sustainable healthy eating plan that suits you. What do you eat now that you really know you shouldn't? Do you drink soda? You can do this. Make this the time you do it for good & do it slowly & healthily.

I eat too much sugar and carbs. I have to eat lean meat and veggies pretty much only and it feels so hard

Hi Mamaof3,

You’re not alone, I lost 80+ pounds and here I am, 12 years later, losing the same 80 pounds

Life gets in the way sometimes and we lose focus.

You’re focusing now, that’s what counts.

I’d recommend coming up with a plan, we don’t always live by it but it’s a good place to start!

I’m a 38 year old single mom. I have little time to prep all my meals so I end up grabbing for things probably shouldn’t
why even have "things you probably shouldn't" in the house? i stopped shopping in the center of the grocery store 6-7 months ago. an example of the old me... well i have some vegetables and fruit, i'll pick up a box of those "low fat" Cheez-It snacks. ooh... they have Star Wars boxes... ok, maybe two boxes. one week later the two boxes are gone and the apples in the frig are beginning to get soft and rotten.

the new me? i haven't given up on snacking (see Snacking 101), but snacks are rarely on my mind. currently i am favoring carrots, zucchini and broccoli though i'm swapped in cauliflower recently. when i have the time i prep them so they are always handy to grab and steam or munch on raw, although through intermittent fasting i'm usually not hungry at random times. since i've gotten smarter about nutrition, a big change has been that i never seem to throw out food anymore because i've ignored it.

Hi mamaof3,

My suggestion that has worked very well for me is to keep a food diary. I record everything I eat and drink except water. I always have a bottle of water on me and usually refill it 5-6 times a day.

I’m not suggesting calorie counting or any specific diet but when you write it all down you can see it all and you tend not to go for the junk food. I still treat myself but I limit it to one piece of dark chocolate after dinner and maybe if I feel like it another one before bed (I’m talking one square from a block of plain DARK chocolate).

Do your kidlets like to walk? Maybe start a tradition of an after dinner walk? Getting the kids involved will make it easier to stick to because it’s not just for yourself.

I tried meal replacements previously. They didn’t work one but for me. I just eat lots of leafy greens and make sure I have a good breakfast every morning. Every evening I pour rolled oats into a bowl, cover with lite soy milk and pop in the fridge. In the morning I have a nice cold porridge. Slice a banana into it and it’s gorgeous!
