Weight-Loss "Fruits" and Diabetics?

Weight-Loss
I am not sure if this topic belongs on this forum, if not, then please delete it with my apologies. A diabetic who is on a diet recently told me that eating "fruits" is not good for him, he said that fruits have too much sugar. Seeing that I use fruits as an in between snack twice per day and that I "might" be diabetic, I would like to find out more about this. Can anyone here explain what the deal is with fruits and diabetics? Also, "if" Diabetics are allowed to consume "certain" fruits, what are those fruits please? Thanks.

I have a friend who is doing ww and she is diabetic, I no she has fruit as snacks. Fruit dose have natural sugar in it. If you think you have diabetes maybe you should go to the doctor and find out for sure. There are a few different types of diabetes and im sure you would have to eat differently for each of them, good luck.

thanks for the response, I don't see that I have any other symptoms of Diabetes except for the "low blood sugar" thing and I have always had a thirst for water ever since I was a child which is why I don't really see the need to go to a Doctor "right now" to find out if I have Diabetes.
Some have told me that I am eating the "wrong" fruits [Apples, Grapes, Oranges and Watermelon mainly] as snacks to lose weight, they say I should have Grapefruit, tried it but too much Acid for my taste, so are these people correct? If so, then what are the best fruits for weightwatchers?

I go to my meeting on Monday and I will ask my friend if there are any fruits that she can not have, hopefully that will give you a better idea. With ww we can have any fruit that we like but some are higher in points then others for eg: a

Peach is ½ point
Small bunch grapes ½ point
1 medium apple 1 point
1 small mango 1 point
A banana can range from 1-3 points depending on the size

It really depends on the size of the fruit

I have had a few people say that I shouldn’t eat grapes because they are fattening peas and beetroot are some of the other things mentioned but thankfully with ww I can have all these things lol. Im no expert on any of this dieting stuff lol but I will find out what I can for you on Monday.

Hi mike, I asked my friend and she said she could eat any fruit she liked but no more than 2 pieces a day. Hope this helps.

Yes, it certainly does help, thank you! I don't understand what she means by 2 "pieces" per day? I usually would have 1 orange in the morning and either an apple, some grapes or roasted peanuts in the evening so exactly what "pieces" mean here is what is throwing me, if in like the case of the "grapes" for example, how many grapes would be equal to 1 piece? Can you ask her this for me please if it's not too much trouble for any of you? Thanks.

well for something like grapes and strawberries and such usually its a cup=1 serving. (nuts are high in fat and cals a serving would be about 1/4c)
oranges, apples, pears ( one medium sized fruit would be 1 serving)

I've been told that "nuts" are very good for the "heart" and that it contains "good" cholesterol, so is it wise for me to have a little bit of nuts every other day or so for "health" reasons or should I avoid it for "weight" reasons?

Yes..as many people have said many fruits are good but some are higher in nat sugars & therefore you want to avoid them. I am pre-diabetic and my dad is diabetic. I would recommend doing some unsalted peanuts or whatever nut you like..they are high in protein, omega 3 & fatty acids... wicked good for you! I will eat them for a snack w/ maybe some dried cranberries or a few raisens to add a little sweet but not too much. Also..having an apple w/ some cheese or peanut butter helps counter act & balance those sugars & helps your body process them more efficiently.
