Sport Friday's Challenge- Planks (7/24)

OK-- It's Thursday an d today we commit, talk trash, throw stones, up the antie, and all that.

Then for those who want to, we do the challenge on Friday. Fridays the gyms are empty, and is the typical slip day.

This keeps us on course and fitness minded.

FFriday's challenge is "60 minutes of plank position"

they can be front, side, elbows, modified, even back planks- if you can pull that off ;)

my plan is 3 min rotation plank x 20 sets
-- that is a 1 min front plank on arms, 1 min each side, with opposing arm straight up.

Are prone bridges, planks? I think thats what i know them by.

I'm out all day tomorrow and probably won't be able to do this challenge. I may do it myself though another day. Good luck mofo's.

Awesome challenge. Three mins is the most I've ever done at one time so 20 of those will be interesting. I plan to do different variations as well plus I have the third day of my 100 pushup workout to do on Friday. I guess Sat will be a rest day. Hope we get more participants. Good luck and update your progress during the day. Man I look forward to these--great fun.
 
Well... as much as I would like to do this challenge, I can't this time.

(having my guts cut on kinda put a damper on this round.. hehe)

BUT! I'm going to be watching all the smack talk and progress...

hmmmm, i dont know how hard it is gunna be yet, but you are a player neon, so here is what I will do.

when my 60 are done, I am gunna tray and toss in another 5 minutes dedicated to you! maybe others will too, and then you will get yer minutes even though you sissied out!

edit-- I just noticed yoru sad face :( - dont be sad... be glad. at least you aint housing an alien anymore!
 
dang, I was waiting for the FFriday Challenge to be pullups. I was ready to smoke you guys. I'll do a couple of planks for FF's sake. :cool2:

She will be doing the challenge, and she will report in before the end of the day tomorrow!

I also want to invite any other ideas. This whole thing is a way for me to get more out of me, for us to motivate one another, and do more than we would have without this site and each other.

If you think a different day of the week is beter, or have ideas of challenges throw them out. Let's use this dang place, good lord knows I spend way too much damn time here :D

Also- it is not so much that you do the FULL challenge, it's that you do more than you would have without it. OH, I mean unless you are perfectly self satsified with your own motivation, progress and results. :11doh:

I will perform mine when I get off work at 1P, and when I get done with some charity work later in the afternoon (I help unload a 48 foot trailer for McDonald's which have boxes ranging from 1 pound to 100 lbs, part-time two to three times per week), and donate my check to a local charity for homeless or displaced children; I should be done about 5PM or so. I project a start about 7PM on the Planks and will report back.

And, yes, I am satisfied with this passed years fitness results. :)

Just in case anyone is unsure of a plank-

here is a front plank (or you can do it with your arms straight, a lil easier)


here is a side plank (again, arm straight a lil easier, more incline is easier)


a modified is using your knee verses foot as the base.
 
Ahhh okay thanks for the links. I will TRY to do it however I have 2 toddler boys, and I am not allowed to be still for very long around here.
 
Alright, because of FF's egging, I'll squeeze out 10 minutes, which is more than I usually do. (I have the abs of a jellyfish).
 
I'm awake and plankin' --3 mins to start. I'm using a min timer to try this without counting. Where are all the newbies and the six pack abers? No excuses!! Get down and get some. I've seen people do planks for 30 sec then put their knees down rest and begin again. Back planks are fun--really feel it in the quads.
PLANKS AND SQUATS ARE THE BEST CORE STRENGTHENING EXERCISES OUT THERE. EVERYONE SHOULD BE DOING THEM AS PART OF A TOTAL FITNESS PACKAGE.
Thanks FF for the challenge. I'm buyin' beers for anyone who can put up 60 mins.
What's the record for consecutive mins. Keep track everyone. I know there's a 5 min planker out there.
 
it is cumaliative

you can do a couple minutes at a time.

I have 14 minutes down so far. My longest one so far is only 3 minutes. The challenge is not holding the longest, it is getting 60 total minutes. Take all day punkin!

P.S. and 60 minutes of plank is a long time. It's just about doing more than you would withoput the challenge.
