PRISONER number 9818783, otherwise known as hotels heiress Paris Hilton, spent her first full day in jail yesterday with a $500,000 bounty hanging over her head courtesy of the US tabloids, desperate for the first picture of her in prison.

Despite the lure, a certain temptation to the meanly paid prison officers in whose care she has been entrusted, she was doing well after her first night in solitary confinement at a Los Angeles jail, her lawyer said yesterday.

"She's using this time to reflect on her life, to see what she can do to make the world better and hopefully, in my opinion, to change the attitudes that exist about her among many people," Richard A. Hutton said yesterday after visiting Hilton.

The socialite checked in to the Century Regional Detention Facility on Monday to serve 23 days for violating probation inan alcohol-related reckless driving case.

Hilton, 26, surrendered after a surprise appearance that day at the MTV Movie Awards, where she worked the red carpet in a strapless designer gown.

Hilton was spending 23 hours a day in a solitary cell in a special unit, Mr Hutton said.

Her waxwork dummy in New York was given a new wardrobe to match Hilton's latest look.

Madame Tussaud's dressed Hilton's wax mannequin in a black-and-white striped prison suit.

A spokeswoman said the dummy would stay in prison garb for as long as her real-life counterpart was behind bars.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Hilton was easy to work with.

"Her demeanour was helpful. She was focused, she was co-operative," said Steve Whitmore.

Hilton, accompanied by her mother, surrendered at the Men's Central Jail.

She was escorted to the women's facility in Lynwood, where she was booked, fingerprinted, photographed, medically screened and issued an orange top and pants.

The booking sheet recorded her as a 1.72m blonde with green eyes who weighs 52kg.

Hilton's booking photo showed her with a slight smile, wearing a V-neck shirt, eye makeup and lip gloss.

After checking in, Hilton was given her first meal: cereal, bread and juice.

She will take all meals in her cell.

The Simple Life star was in the "special needs" unit, separate from most of her 2200 fellow inmates.

The unit contains 12two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates.

Hilton's cell has two bunks, a table, a sink, a toilet and a small window.

No mobile phones or BlackBerrys are permitted in the prison, even for visitors.

I want the 7 seconds of my life back that I just spent googling for that story and copying and pasting it..

this is one of those I cant even muster the energy to care moments..

I can't stand her.

What's sad is outside countries judge the citizens of the USA based on the people our media chooses to highlight on a consistent basis.

Is just so happen that a good bit of these people are absolutely pathetic.

Hahahaha.. Paris Hilton is in prison.

Just goes to show that even the most famous and richest of people can't get out of that much trouble. :D

Why isn't she among the other 2200 prisoners?? You think it's fair to have separate cells for celebrities and non celebrities?

Hah, that made my day. Thanks for posting the story, Mal. The minute I spent reading it is certainly worth the big smile I have on my face now :)

And I vote to put her with the other prisoners too!

Don't kid yourself.....

Hahahaha.. Paris Hilton is in prison.

Just goes to show that even the most famous and richest of people can't get out of that much trouble. :D

Paris Hilton IS above the law, this whole "going to prison" thing is mearly a publicity stunt. You are fooling yourself if you think she isn't being pampered and talking on her shiny pink mobile phone while sitting on gold and silk cusions eating bon bons in the jail cell. Probably even has her little doggie in there with her. Anyone else notice this is coinciding with her new atrocious season of the F'ing show "the simple life"? What a great way to drum up instant ratings!

Seriously. What would have happened to any of us had we been in the same spot? We would have been prosecuted to the full extent of the law, not made out to be some poor woe-begotten princess.

For the record I think she should be let out of prison and insted be put in front of a firing line. Instead of spending tax payers money to house that stupid *&$%&^ we should be using her money to feed, oh I dunno, AFRICA??!?!? It is all a publicity game to get her even more famous and notorius, like janets booby at superbowl and madonna frenching britney.

I wonder how much it costs US (as in all of us) to keep that high society cow in pampered lockup...... I for one would pay for the bullets to take the other option.

What an absolute waste of humanity that thing, I mean woman, is. I only wish I could tell her to her face. But then I would be in jail.... :) Bet on it!

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Paris Hilton was let out of jail Thursday morning, days after she began serving what was to have been a 45-day sentence for violating probation, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

Hilton must wear a monitoring bracelet and remain at her home for another 40 days, said sheriff's department spokesman Steve Whitmore.

Medical considerations "played a part" in the decision to offer Hilton home confinement for the remainder of her sentence, Whitmore said.

He said privacy rules prohibited him from giving details about the medical issues, but celebrity Web site TMZ.com earlier quoted sources saying Hilton was refusing to eat much of the jail food served her.

Whitmore said that after "extensive consultation with medical personnel" it was decided to offer Hilton "reassignment" to home confinement, which she and her attorneys accepted.

Part of the deal was that her original sentence of 45 days, which had been reduced to 23 days if she showed good behavior behind bars, would be restored to the full length. Although she reported to the jail just before midnight Sunday and departed in the early hours of Thursday, she was given credit for five days, he said. (Blog: Is this a miscarriage of justice?)

Whitmore said the decision to send Hilton home was made by a panel of officials in the sheriff's department, although the judge who sentenced her was advised of the move.

Hilton was arrested on charges of drunken driving in September.

In January, she pleaded no contest to a charge of alcohol-related reckless driving. She was sentenced to three years' probation and had her license suspended.

In February, she was caught driving on a suspended license, which later was ruled a probation violation.

Hilton entered jail Sunday after attending the MTV Movie Awards, where she answered questions from the press and was the subject of host Sarah Silverman's jokes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OK so basically she didn't like the prison food, so she decided to starve herself - they could tell this how actually? a good wind would blow her over... WhenI take over the world I will have an zero tolerance policy for the morons who drive drunk and there is NO excuse for driving drunk... None nada bupkiss - the cops will have my permission to shoot them dead on the spot...
so now Paris gets to serve out her sentence at home - how lovely...
That just goes to show"special privaleges for celbrities and ditzy ones at that and to see her wear the white and black striped jailers suite and say "THAT'S HOTT"
Paris Hilton gets a crap sentence and Martha Freakin' Stewart--the queen of nice has to serve her whole sentence. Ridiulous.
Paris Hilton is such a skank...I can't stand her.
hmmmmmm
Let out after 5 days..... Well, not even really, but makes one wonder....
As mentioned, how would anyone know she was starving? She makes anorexia look healthy.
I suspect it was a plot by the prison guards who simply couldn't stand having that whiney little cow anywhere near them for 23 days.....
And Mal, I am with you on the drunk driving. First offense, last offense. If that doesnt give people motivation to stop being idiots then they deserve it.
I wonder if I would get sued and go to jail if I made a "Paris Hilton is such a Skank!" website......
would be worth it I think.
I doubt they would let me out after 5 days though.
paris and her cronies get a lot of publicity this side of the pond too. i cant bear the woman myself. can you see a "joe bloggs" getting released early for medical considerations. prisons are full of people with genuine medical/mental problems. the prisons would be empty if they let them go. over here we have something called council tax - like a local tax, supposed to pay for police, council, bin emptying etc. its dependant on your property (even if its rented) and if you are on a low or fixed income many struggle or dont pay it. its a prisonable offence if you dont. we have pensioners in their 70`s and 80`s who cant afford it being sent to prison.. which is very sad. you can also get sent to prison for not having a tv liscence... wtf....
not paying these bills wont hurt anyone (apart from the fat cats wallets who are the bosses of these companies.) drink driving can and does. slim
Judge orders Paris Hilton back to jail
Weeping heiress screams ‘It’s not right!’ as she’s taken from courtroom
Updated: 48 minutes ago
LOS ANGELES - Paris Hilton was sent screaming and crying back to jail Friday after a judge ruled that she must serve out her sentence behind bars rather than in the comfort of her Hollywood Hills home.
“It’s not right!” shouted Hilton, who violated her probation in a reckless driving case. “Mom!” she cried out to her mother.
The 26-year-old hotel heiress was taken handcuffed from her home in a black-and-white police car, paparazzi sprinting in pursuit and helicopters broadcasting live from above. She entered the courtroom disheveled and weeping, hair askew, without makeup, wearing a fuzzy gray sweat shirt over slacks.
She cried throughout the hearing, dabbing her eyes, and her body shook constantly. Several times she turned to her parents, seated behind her in the courtroom, and mouthed, “I love you.” TMZ.com reported that Hilton's family will file an appeal, maybe as soon as Friday afternoon.
Despite being ordered to serve the remainder of her original 45-day sentence, Hilton could still be released early. Inmates are given a day off their terms for every four days of good behavior, and her days in home detention counted as time served.
Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer was calm but apparently irked by Sheriff Lee Baca’s decision to release Hilton three days into her sentence due to an unspecified “medical condition.”
“I at no time condoned the actions of the sheriff and at no time told him I approved the actions,” Sauer said. “At no time did I approve the defendant being released from custody to her home.”
Hearing sought by prosecutors
The hearing was requested by the city attorney’s office, which had prosecuted Hilton and wanted Baca held in contempt for releasing Hilton despite Sauer’s express order that she must serve her time in jail. The judge took no action on the contempt request.
A member of the county counsel’s staff said Baca was willing to come to court with medical personnel. The judge did not take him up on the offer.
Assistant City Attorney Dan F. Jeffries argued that Hilton’s incarceration was purely up to the judge. “Her release after only three days erodes confidence in the judicial system,” he said.
Hilton’s attorney, Richard Hutton, implored the judge to order a hearing in his chambers to hear testimony about Hilton’s medical condition before making a decision. The judge did not respond to that suggestion.
Another of her attorneys, Steve Levine, said, “The sheriff has determined that because of her medical situation, (jail) is a dangerous place for her.”
“The court’s role here is to let the Sheriff’s Department run the jail,” he said.
Judge didn't receive papers from sheriff
The judge interrupted several times to say that he had received a call last Wednesday from an undersheriff informing him that Hilton had a medical condition and that he would submit papers to the judge to consider. He said the papers never arrived.
Every few minutes, the judge would interrupt proceedings, state the time on the clock, and note that the papers still had not arrived.
He also noted that he had heard that a private psychiatrist visited Hilton in jail, and he wondered if that person played a role in deciding her medical needs.
The last attorney to speak was another deputy city attorney, David Bozanich, who declared, “This is a simple case. There was a court order. The Sheriff’s Department chose to violate that order. There is no ambiguity.”
Hilton’s twisted jailhouse saga began Sept. 7, when she failed a sobriety test after police saw her weaving down a street in her Mercedes-Benz on what she said was a late-night hamburger run.
She pleaded no contest to reckless driving and was sentenced to 36 months’ probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines. In the months that followed she was stopped twice while driving on a suspended license. The second stop landed her in Sauer’s courtroom.
Back before Sauer on Friday, Hilton’s entire body trembled as the final pitch was made for her further incarceration. She clutched a ball of tissue and tears ran down her face.
Seconds later, the judge announced his decision: “The defendant is remanded to county jail to serve the remainder of her 45-day sentence. This order is forthwith.”
Hilton screamed.
Eight deputies immediately ordered all spectators out of the courtroom. Hilton’s mother, Kathy, threw her arms around her husband, Rick, and sobbed uncontrollably.
Deputies escorted Hilton out of the room, holding each of her arms as she looked back.
awww... poor baby...:rolleyes: She doesn't get off because she has money..
and I think I like the judge, making her serve the rest of her sentence. I bet he has a daughter... :D
I'm so sick of that lifeless no personality having prima donna princess wannabe. Who cares if its cold & lonely... ITS JAIL. NO ONE wants to be there. Waaaa.
I just was flipping channels last night & caught the simple life & like a train wreck I had to look. She & that other stick figure were being counselors at a weight loss camp. They look the campers on a binge fest at the local convenience store & then when the weight went up & they had to do something about it or get in trouble they asked themselves what they did to lose weight... THEY FLIRT. So they took the ladies out to a bar or something to pick up men... & POLE DANCE. Gee... is that why I am stuck at 183.. I don't FLIRT enough! lol
Ug.. why o why do these people waste the film?
Seems like as far as jails go, she got a cushy one anyway.
