Forgot To Stretch!

The other day, I was just speed walking on the treadmill for 5 minutes, break, 10 minutes, break, and then 5 minutes again. However, I forgot to stretch before and after! All I did before were 15 situps which weren't for stretching and 50 jumps. And after, I forgot to do ANY stretching! This was only once but I think my calves turned to almost all muscle. :( Is there anyway for me to loose some of the muscle and the nstart to lose the fat again? And my calves hurt now when I walk.

don't worry if you missed stretching only one workout. and your calves won't become all muscle after only one workout. besides, there's nothing wrong with adding muscle.

you want muscle and little fat. the more muscle in your body, the faster your metabolic rate.

i always stretch after a workout, but rarely before. i was taught that stretching minimized any soreness you would normally get following a workout(like your calves now) so i try not to forget. hopefully your pain is a lesson learned (=.

Same here. I usually stretch following a workout, but never before. I usually do a fairly short warm up before a workout instead of stretching

I stretch a minor amount before runs and rarely after them... It just depends on how rough I felt through the run if I think I need it after... Never been a problem for me, and sometimes if I over stretch during a run it can be problematic, but that is incredibly rare that I do that. I know a friend of mine who can never stretch before hand because it causes this issue. *shrug*

You dont have to stretch before you work out or run. Stretching as well as massaging, can actually tire your muscles if done too long. Light stretching is usually the best, but I usually just start at a brisk walk, and then build into my run.

I read in one of the magazines that stretching before a workout decreases your performance... is that true?

I don't stretch before training at all normally. I would do very light stretching of the quads and calfs before a run but then i build up pace over a few minutes into my run anyway and alwasy do a 5 minute cooldown. If i'm playing football i do 15 mins of stretching as i find i get injured if i don't! But when doing weights i never stretch. So is doing a light run befire my weights ok instead of stretching? A lot of different thoughts on this sort of topic!
