For all you Northerners up there

I'm flying from Texas to Portland, Maine on Feb 18th with a friend. From there we are renting a car to travel throughout Maine in 7 days...like a scenic tour designed by me. I have a list of many attractions and things to do there. Yes, I know we will freeze our Texas Hiney's off, but I really wanted to get away and go somewhere far from here and do something completely different. That being said, what would you Northerners or even people that have some smarts about cold weather/Maine, suggest about my trip?

I mean, anything from places to visit in Maine, or things to bring, or things to expect, etc.

I am going shopping tomorrow/this weekend for all the warm clothes I will need, obviously thats a must!

gracias

My mom used to live in Maine for a short time...all I can say from the few stories I heard was, eat the lobster!

Here's my advice: bring a lot of warm clothes

Awe, c'mon, 0 degrees isnt THAT bad! hee hee. I know, I know, Like I said, we will be freezing our Texas hineys off. we are NOT taking a kayak across any river/lake. we are NOT swimming in the beaches.

Do you have experience driving on snowy or icy roads? If the weather is bad during your trip it could be quite treacherous. My best advice if you do run into bad weather is take it very very easy on the roads. You could also consider renting a 4-wheel drive vehicle if you can afford it. Just keep in mind that 4-wheel drive does not help you stop any faster, it's just good for getting you going in very slippery conditions.
