Sport food intake

OK i work a lifeguarding job and sometimes the hours get odd and it's hard to find time to sit down and eat a well balanced lunch. soo here's a typical day of what i consume...sometimes it changes depending on the hours i work:

6:30AM- get up and run 2.5 miles
breakfast: bowl of Fiber ONE or NATURES Promise with fruit ontop
After breakfast a power walk with mom and the dog
When i get back a possible snack such as fruit or a rice cake
Lunch can be a PB&J or fruit and cottage cheese
sometimes i skip a snack or i'll have fruit again
dinner can be either a homecooked meal or grilled chicken salad
sometimes dessert.
OH and i ride my bike to work about 2.5 miles ...i work everyday just either in the morning or late afternoon.
let me know if i have too much fruit....can you eat too much fruit?

I would not say that you are eating too much fruit, however, you don't seem to be eating any (or few) veggies. So, you do appear to be eating a disproportionate amount of fruit compared to some other things.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend running 2.5 mi on a completely empty stomach (although there are arguments both ways on that one).

I don't know how much protein is in the cereals you listed, but I would make sure they have a good protein content.

Maybe you could consider a piece of whole wheat toast with a couple of egg whites.

Lunch can be a PB&J or fruit and cottage cheese

Make sure you use whole wheat bread and natural peanut butter (and jelly if available) - check bread for hugh fructose corn syrup, you might be surprised how many wheat breads contain it. Also, try to get in some veggies during the day, like some carrots or celery, or a salad w/ lots of veggies & a low/non fat dressing.

sometimes i skip a snack or i'll have fruit again
Try not to skip if possible, you should try to eat every couple or three hours, but I know that isn't always possible.

dinner can be either a homecooked meal or grilled chicken salad
I'm guessing based on your other food choices that you don't cook garbage for dinner, so that's good. Try to make sure you include lean protein, lots of veggies, and a bit of whole grains in there.

sometimes dessert.
well, we're all human;)

Overall, I would say that you definitely know how to choose healthy foods as opposed to eating all the garbabe that we are constantly bombarded with. (bravo on the exercise too) Maybe try for a little more balance, and throw some strength training into the mix (to balance out your workouts), and your all set.

Thanks for all the help. I usually have veggies at dinner whether it's steamed or raw. Just the other night I had Veggie Faijitas(sp?). Does protein make you loose weight? I am worried I am eatting too many carbs.

Don't worry too much about carbs, it's mostly hype. Your body needs carbohydrates to produce energy, just make sure they come in the form of fruits/veggies and whole grains, not doughnuts and white breads. Take heed of what a serving is also. A mountain of mashed potatoes is not a serving, 1/2 cup is (and try for sweet potatoes instead).

Protein is used primarily as a building block for cells (including muscle tissue), and only used as a fuel when the body is depleted of carbohydrates (not optimal).
