So I plan on going to this concert soon and I was wondering about how I should eat. Since the food at the venue is very expensive and all they really serve is pizza, nachos and other fatty foods that I don't eat, I was thinking to pack in my calories before I go and drink water the rest of the day. When I go to concerts, I usually don't eat anything anyways because I'm too excited and busy watching bands play. So what do you think I should do? The concert is from like 12 in the afternoon to 11pm-12am. And since it's a festival, I won't have to worry about exersice because I'll be moving all day.hehe

Advice please! =)

I don't think you should go without food for 12 hours while you're there.

Can you bring food in? Even if you're not allowed to bring in a cooler or a lunch bag, I'd suggest bringing in some healthy snacks like almonds, an apple, that kind of thing - little things that can be tucked in your purse or pockets.

And even if you don't buy any of the "festival food" type things (pizza, etc.), do think about at the very least seeing if there's someplace you can get juice. Even a frozen yogurt would be a decent carryover during the day ... higher in sugar, but not as bad as ice cream and would give you some protein and dairy to help keep you going.

Healthy foods are always best, but I tend to give myself a break at a special occasion type thing and just hop back on track the next day. Would 1 piece of pizza be that terrible for a whole day along w/ a few healthier things you pack?

Thanks for the response!

I just did some research on the venue and they actually have some healthy food items (mainly fresh fruit and caesar salad(which I don't like). So do you think it would be ok to eat a little more before I go to the concert and then buy some fruit while there? Also, do you think dried fruit is an option? It's going to be a REALLY hot day, and I don't want to risk carrying around a fresh apple etc. all day to have it be smushed in the 'pits' and rot from all the heat(hot mushy fruit=big no no) lol

Well ... two things. :)

1 - dried fruit is good, but keep in mind that drying fruit really concentrates the sugars while reducing the bulk of the fruit. You get less fiber and more sugar and it's really easy to eat a LOT of calories in dried fruit. It's something (like almonds and other nuts) that you have to go easy on because of the calorie level.

2 - fruit isn't going to rot from spending a few hours in the heat. :) I've carried whole and sliced apples around in my purse while wandering through the Renaissance Festival on a hot Texas day and while the fruit is warm, it's generally not mushy and rotted. Apples, oranges, etc. all should be ok in your bag for a few hours.

Both of those things said, if you can buy fruit while you're there, then go for it. Also I agree with treehugger that there is nothing wrong with buying a piece of pizza or something like that. It's possible to make healthy choices - 1 piece of cheese pizza will likely have around 300 calories or so ... and at least it's a combination of carbs and protein. Use a napkin to soak up some of the grease from the melted cheese and let yourself have a piece with some fruit. It's far better to eat that, than to go 12 hours w/out food. :)

Thanks

Thanks for letting me know. I've never eaten dried fruit before, so I knew nothing about it. Yeah, I don't think one slice should do any harm. But the reason why I brung up not bringing food in is because I'll be in the (mosh) pits most of the day, which will be harsh on anything I bring with me (people all around randomly bumping into you, crowdsurfers etc). I'm just trying to find the right balance. This is my first metal concert/festival since I've started to lose weight.

Sneak food in.
