Food allergies anyone?

Hello,

I have a host of allergies (food and otherwise) and find that it makes things a little more challenging. I have coeliac disease, am lactose intolerant and seem to have developed a reaction to soy milk as well. My body also does not love sugar-free foods or drinks, which makes me sad as I do love me some diet coke/coke zero.

My problem is not so much that I can't have certain foods, because I am used to this (except for the soy thing, which is new and again makes me a little sad as i did enjoy the occasional soy latte), but it is more the fact that I feel that because I can't have many things, it is ok to overeat on alternative products (poor little deprived me!). Example: I can't have a piece of cake when others have it, so I buy myself a packet of gluten free cookies and eat them all.

I was at my thinnest (and felt physically the best) just after diagnosis, when I was told not to substitute for 3 months (so no glutenfree pasta, just have no pasta, no gluten free bread instead no bread, etc...). Lost a bunch of weight, and felt fantastic, but in time I have become more lax and man.... a bowl of pasta is so easy to make, rather than having to chop and cook loads of veggies, etc... even when I know it is not "the best" for me.

So anyone else has food allergies? How do you cope? What are your little trade secrets?

I have a fair number of allergies but the worst is wheat, I don't like the taste of most substitute food, so I just simply go without, this does not mean that I don't slip up occasionally but it is done knowing that I will feel bad for a few days afterwards depending on how bad the slip up was. On the up side it does make it easier to stick to a targeted keto diet.

I have a strange allergy to food, I do not know if it is an allergy, but I think it is. Whenever I fry chillies or masalas to cook food, I start to sneeze continuously.

Hey

allergies are an interesting topic. I used to suffer bad until I cleaned up my diet. Bread and gluten are a big one. gluten attacks the gut lining and causes the immune system to attack the proteins in it.

Also soya is not good. Despite its advertising, unfermented soy can have some terrible effects to the body

I've been free of allergies for months now just by making small changes to my diet.

Feels nice to breathe

Hey guys! You know I react really badly to a lot of food - everything smoked, olives, cheese, ripe banana, melons, celery, all dairy, all gluten, nuts, seeds...I did an allergy test. I was shocked. Nothing showed any allergies! Then for some years I was doing research, contacting nutritionistsand specialists.apparently I have too much histamine. It means that if I eat salmon, its fine but if I eat with lemon which releases histamine...I am done. For 10 years I have been experiencing unexplained and impossible to treat seizures, muscle pain, horrible stomach pain and rashes.
It would be so simple if i had allergies...I would at least know exactly what food I cannot it. There is a list for the histamine, but the problem is that there are also other things that can trigger release. For example, I started taking enzymes with bromelaine just thinking it might aid my digestion. I ended up in a hospital when my heart almost exploded from histamine pumping it....
You think I should be skinny if i cannot it 90% of food? here comes the bomb. all the histamine reactions were caused by slow thyroid - Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Even though my tests were fine, only antibodies showed up, I decided to try taking tyroxine (thyroid hormone). My reactions to food cleared up and I finally started losing weight. Before this, I used to starve eat 400-500 kcal for months I couldn't love that weight!!! I am no joking at all. You would say its impossible. My family thought I was cursed or smth....Only when I bought tyroxine my life started going the right direction. When someone tells me they have a lot of reactions to different foods and problems with weight, I tell them - go check your thyroid. Best luck.

I don't eat meat, its not a food allergy its just a family thing ( I haven't eaten meat for 17 years) But I am allergic to Fish, Shellfish, strawberries, sometimes chocolate makes me sick too. I developed an allergy to strawberries just a couple years ago I use to eat them all the time :(

I am allergic to peanuts and tree nuts and our family does not eat eggs because my son is allergic. It takes some learning to manage and make good substitutions. I find eating out (restaurants, friends, family, office) to be a challenge.

Food allergies and food sensitivities are becoming epidemic. There are various theories on what causes food allergies, but one that stands out is the theory that when once's guts are unhealthy they do not properly digest foods and these foods then make him/her sick. Foods most commonly associated with food allergies include dairy products, grains that contain gluten, and foods that cause intestinal gas buildup, such as beans and cabbage. The best current treatment for food allergies is to either avoid certain foods or eat them less often and in smaller amounts, as well as taking some supplements that may help digestion.
