Tim Ferriss, author of The Four Day Workweek has a blog in which he suggests eating the same things on a frequent basis with one cheat day a week. He claims this will help you lose 20 lbs of fat without exercising. Of course, I know results may vary.

Based on his plan, he calls for eating a piece of baked or broiled meat, mainly chicken or fish for lean protein (he also suggests pork, but hypertension runs in my family, so I'm trying to avoid that), sticking to vegetables, green and leafy mainly, and a low GI Carb foods such as legumes.

For example, I cooked a Roasted Asparagus & Mushroom salad, broiled Tilapia with Pinto Beans for my lunch and dinner. I eat egg whites & spinach with beans in the morning.

I've been doing this about a 5 days or so and so far so good. My cravings are going down, and I feel pretty "light" I do exercise in the evenings 3-5 times a week, so that should help me with my goals.

My main concern is the beans though. This is a low-carb, high protein diet, and while Beans have "good" carbs (Low GI), I'm concerned about consuming too many beans or bringing in extra fat. I cook with cooking spray to cut down fat.

I haven't done a cheat day yet, but even on those days, I'll be careful. Ferriss suggests it in order to "shock" your metabolism every once in awhile, so it won't be complacent with the reduced calorie load.

I did something similar to this in college and lost a lot of weight. Main issue was that I was popping Epehdra pills like candy, so that didn't help.

Anyhow, I am 6'0", 340 lbs, and my goal is to lose 140 pounds. I know I'll have to look at this in 10-20 lb increments, because otherwise, I'll go crazy. I know I didn't gain this weight overnight, and I sure won't lose it overnight, but it can be frustrating.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

At your weight, you do not need to worry about "shocking" your metabolism -- you will be able to go quite some time before you need to worry about anything like that. A cheat day doesn't need to be a gorge fest, just do what you plan on. Having one night a week where you can eat out or at a freinds and not stress over calories won't hurt (just watch portions and don't feel like you need to finish EVERYTHING in front of you.)

Add in some strength training and it should work out good. High protein + strength training will help you maintain muscle mass.

What kind of fat is in those beans that has you worried? Trans fat is something you should NOT consume ever and you should just watch your saturated fat content. If your calories add up otherwise, you should be fine.

This diet should teach you to eat the right foods. You still need to educate yourself fully on nutrition. Read up all you can. Understanding nutrition even on a basic level makes it harder to make the wrong choices.

Good luck, if you consistant and keep a clear head you should do fine.

Coming in for an update (I'm going to start a WL diary too). So far, so good, I've lost about 8 pounds in the last 2.5 weeks or so.
