Just curious if you take it whole or grinded up from a coffee grinder? I have heard that it will assimilate into the body better grinded?

i use mine whole but I'd be curious to see if it is better to grind it because then I would start doing that.

I actually buy the pre-ground Flax meal. Should I actually grind the whole flax myself or is the store bought kind fine? I don't usually have the time to grind them myself so I buy the pre-ground.

I was also curious to know if there is a difference between the regular flax & golden flax. I've seen both and both have the same nutritional information. Is one better than the other.

Did some more research on this topic and we could go one step further and throw in Flax Seed Oil into the mix too. from what I have read that the oil and grounded flax seed will assimilate into your body much easier and if you have a coffee grinder (ya know that grinds the coffee beans) then you can use this to grind your flax seed. I usually put my flax seed into my oatmeal and im gonna start grinding it now i think. Heres the link to the most helpful info I found out about it.

Don't buy them pre-ground. They may be rancid. Buy them whole and grind them yourself in a coffee grinder.

Buy the golden flax.

Why do you say this? I've never ran into this problem as I usually mix it in with something. I think my main concern is that the health benefit of pre-ground is marginal. From my research, there is no real difference. I also like the convience because I already spend too much time preparing my meals. Good thing I like to cook :)

It takes 30 seconds to grind some flax seeds. You can grind a few servings at a time and put the extra in the fridge.

I say that the pre-ground seeds may not be as fresh because the oil is exposed to light and air when the shell is broken. I also rarely see the ground stuff stored in the refrigerated section where it ought to be.

Now I'm not saying that for sure the stuff you get is rancid every time. I'm saying it's a possibility. I would just rather not risk it.

The health benefit of the flax seeds would be marginal if it's rancid...I'm a little confused by your post.

Yep - now that I re-read my post it is confusing. I meant to say that my main concern was I was curious IF the health benefits of pre-ground were marginal or signficant to freshly ground.

I store mine if the fridge once it's opened. I'll try grinding them myself next time to see if there is a noticeable difference (there may be a difference but I doubt it's something quantifiable).

Time to hit up Wal-mart for a coffee grinder!

Thanks for the information by the way....I have always been a bit curious of the difference.

Rancid flax oil tastes different than fresh flax oil. It may be hard to tell the difference with the seed but maybe you can. Once you grind the flax seeds fresh you may not want to go back cause it will taste so much better :)

If you are eating the flax seeds for their omega3s, that's the part that goes rancid and no longer benefits your body.

Should i have FLAX SEED in my diet? I saw it at the store today and it had a good amount of calories to add to my bulk diet. BUt what is it good for?

and the first few days are fun! I'm almost tempted to stop eating the stuff so I can start again.
