Flax seed oil capsules....

I just bought some a few days ago bc I heard it is good for hair and skin. I thought it would be good to add this to my diet. What are all the benefits of flax seed oil? Is there anything it does for weight loss? It won't interfere w/ weight loss will it?
By the way, I am 25 and have about 50 pounds to lose. I am eating a low (healthy number) of calories and working out at least 5 days a week (most weeks).

the should be used to supplement your EFA or fat intake. If you dont get enough healthy fats in a day then these will help. As always it is better to get your fats from natural sources.

Some examples of food with healthy fats are:
Tuna, Salmon, peanuts, almonds, eggs (these have some sat fats)

I guess I do need to take these then because I don't eat peanuts or peanut butter much, I rarely eat Salmon (I do like it though). I love eggs, but most mornings all I have time for is cereal :)

Oops...I just realized I posted this on the Men's forum...I just saw Vitamins and thought that's where I needed to post. Thanks for the answers though guys and sorry to intrude on y'all :)

I would have to recommend buying the real thing. The amount of capsules you would have to consume to get enough EFA's to have any real effect on you is just too much. They may be convenient, but they are not as effective as you might have hoped. Your best bet is to buy flax oil straight up in a bottle, keep it in a cold dark place (fridge/pantry) and have it with your shakes.

The same thing goes with a lot of foods that are enriched with EFA's. People read "EFA" and they assume thats all that is important. For example, eggs enriched with EFA's are not really worth the extra buck (thats how much more they are in my neck of the woods anyhow).. There just isn't enough to warrant the extra money.

So.. I would finish up with your pills, then go with the real deal :)

I'm with niceone...next time buy a bottle of straight liquid oil. On average, you want 2-3 tablespoons of flax oil per day to supplement your fat intake.

that comes to around 10-13g of oil. Most oil caps are 1g or less...so that's 10-13 per day. Usually its more expensive, and the caps are a little large to swallow at times.
