flat feet!

i'd had flat feet all my life and i have arch supports but if i ever try to run more than about a mile me feet just hurt very badly. I went to the foot doctor and he said that the supposrts should get rid of all the pain but it doesn't. Any know of anything that can help me?

Did the podiatrist prescribe orthotics and take casts of your feet??

yes they did, but i still have pain.... not as much i would have if i didn't have them. I guess it is something i just have to live with?

I used to have flat feet; however, you can get some arches by doing certain exercises.

and running is on the balls of your feet (balls of your feet touches the ground first every step you make, not the heals)

Here are some exercises to get arches (I am 20 and I started getting arches within a couple weeks of doing this)

- focus on putting your weight on the side of your feet (the outside) when you walk and having your feet straight in line with your knee. (I used to walk like a duck before relizing this lol)..and back straight!

- stand against a wall with your back straight, feet right next to each other for like 30 seconds, then take a break, and then do it again (Do not over do it though)

- after you read this response, I want you to look down at your feet when you walk every now and then to make sure your feet are straight and not walking like a duck. Make sure your back is straight when walking and make sure your weight is on the side of your feet (outside end) and not the inside end.

After a while, your body will do this automatically and there ya go! =)

Go get a 2nd opinion from another podiatrist - specifically one that specializes in sports medicine or orthorpedics. I have no idea what Swt is talking about and would just speak to a dr.

If your orthotics were made for you with a cast of your feet, the orthotist should have scheduled a follow-up appointment to check on how they are working out. If not, you should probably schedule one yourself because if your feet hurt then the orthotics aren't right yet.

How important is it to have an arch in your foot? I've never taken much notice of my feet untill now as i've been doing a lot of running.
