Fitness DvD / Gym Combination

Hello everyone,

I was hoping that I could have a discussion about motivation and experiences towards fitness DvDs.
Some questions I would like to post are:

If you have completed a fitness DvD (for example a Beachbody DvD like Insanity) Do you find that after it is done, you start to plateau and maybe it is not the easiest to switch up the workout without going back to a gym or buying a different (but most likely similar) fitness DvD?

Would you rather do a fitness DvD rather then running on a treadmill or elliptical? (knowing that the DvD might be harder work but will provide faster and better results)

Would you like to be able to switch up workouts easily and conveniently between lifting weights (for sculpting or building) and doing effective fitness DvD?

Do you find it hard to get motivated to complete a fitness DvD around the house because of easily accessible excuses or distractions? Resulting in easily missing workouts.

If you were completing a fitness DvD would you find it helpful to have face-to-face interaction between a knowledgeable person about fitness and yourself who can help you perform the workouts properly and safely?

The reason I am asking about this is because I am thinking about incorporating fitness DvDs into a conventional gym, and I was hoping to get some feedback. I feel there are a lot of advantages to expanding them into a gym because it will expand knowledge to people who are not familiar with DvD workouts and how effective they can be. I constantly see people running on treadmills or on the elliptical and think, why not do an explosive workout for less time that will provide faster and better results. I am thinking maybe they just are not knowledgeable on the subject? I also feel that this will allow for great variety in a persons workout. From doing dynamic fitness videos to sculpting with weights or bulking up, Having everything in one place seems very convenient to me. As well fitness DvDs work around customers schedules instead of the customer having to work around the gyms class schedule.

I encourage anyone to provide me with some feed back on this. but before you do, remember that we are talking about great fitness DvDs that are proven to work, shed weight, and build strong cores. As well, this idea is only one aspect of the gym. The whole other aspect is the same as any other gym, where anyone can come and lift weights or do whatever they want.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone!!

I can only give you my experience with the Insanity DVD on this one. I tried it out. I did the first 4 weeks and lost 5KG in doing so. It was tough. Once the 4 weeks were over I didn't feel right inside and my whole body ached. I guess this was down to the intense cardio involved and the stretches. Still I didn't let that hold me back and I did the first day for the recovery week only to have to run to the toilet and throw up. I have since joined a gym and am happy with things there.

But, I will tell you in addition to my gym work that just this week I have started the DDP yoga DVD workout. It's an easy one and I like it so far.

So, all in all, make sure people would be physically able for the Insanity one as it is indeed insane.
