Fitness Career! Need Advice!

Hey gang, I need some help deciding on a Fitness Career. Anyone in this field as a personal trainer or other health related occupation? I need some tips on salary potential for the various Fitness certifications.

I am miserable in my current profession (Information Technology) and I need a career change in a huge way. My passion in life is Health and Fitness and it's time I made my work part of those passions. Can you help me?

Thanks for any advice!

;)

Prepare to make only a few $$$. You have to have serious attributes including:
1.) Experierence
2.) Communication Skills
3.) Empathy
4.) Anatomy and Biomechanics Knowledge
5.) Bachelors Degree
6.) CPT Certification
7.) Selling Experience

If you have all those attributes you can make betwen $30-50K with a Fitness Center, or $40-75K on your own.

Been a proffesional trainer for over 23 years and I'm also a doctor several times over. to be honest it all depends on where you live. Small town, large city, EU or USA ect.

I'm a bit biased as we launch our certification program next month but there are a few good ones out there. We currently suggest home training as it pays far better. The hardest part is that about 90% of what is taught only works well for 10% or less of the people. The most important thing is why you want to work in the industry. Most guys/gals do it as a last resort or they enjo the workout, not because they like to help others. When you first start out it takes massive sacrafice.

cheers

Thanks for the honest advice so far.

My career in the fitness world doesn't especially have to be a personal trainer per say. I just want a career where I can enjoy the company and lifestyle of fitness in general. Does this make any sense?? I can imagine there are plenty of opportunities in the fitness industry besides personal training. THIS is what I am trying to find out. What is available? What are my options besides PT? Maybe I can check into local colleges around my home town (Cincinnati, OH) to gain more info.

Any ideas would be awesome. I am not ruling out a personal training career at all, I am just trying to weigh all options. If I am going to change careers I need to make sure it's really something I want to pursue. I am not getting any younger either but I still have at least 30 more years to work the way I'm going now so I better be liking what I do!

i want to be a personal trainer also.. i am getting all the experience i can by helping my buddies at the gym :-D

i also want to be a personal trainer because fitness/health is my passion :)

Im doing a bachelor of sport and recreation at the moment and with this degree I will be a personal trainer and also have buiseness and marketing papers as well. Dont just try and be a personal trainer its to easy and there are too many out there you need to get that one step further.

There are other aspects of fitness that you can go into, club management, marketing, financial, etc... On top of that if you want you could do like engineering and work for a company that makes exercise equipment...
