Does anyone have any good websites that give exercises for the "older" adult? I have been given the opportunity to teach a class, and want to get as much informaiton as possible.
basketlady, my mom goes to a place called Body Recall. I believe they lift light weights and do some calesthenic-type things. She does this and mall walks and is in great shape. It is for older adults.
I typed in Body Recall and came up with a number of sites. I bet there is someone you can contact who can fill you in on their routine.
Thanks Cheryl -- I've been teaching them since February, and things are going well. I am always looking for new and interesting exercises for them - so they do not get bored. It's amazing what a great group of people they are....very dedicated and a lot of fun!
I'll check out Body Recall and see if it gives me any new info.
Yes, Tai Chi or Qi Gong are excellent forms of exercise for older adults. Snything with Slow movements that emphasize grace and balance are wonderful and perhaps make more sense for some than faster more aggessive movements.
I don't know any specific exercises that you can do for older adults, but the American College of Sports Medicine has some great advice for how to start elderly people on safe exercise programs. I would definatly recommend that you check out their website prior to starting your class. They can help with the intensity and duration that you should have your class work at.
