Fish Oil and Heart supplements for running?

Hey everyone,

Im an avid runner and I try do 3+ miles a day. Ive been slacking a bit mainly because Ive had so much to do...but thats besides the point.

Anyway, I was in GNC the other day looking around and I came across the heart-healthy section. Fish oils and various other supplements that specifically targeted the heart. Alot of this was to maintain arteries and allow better flow of blood etc.

Would these have any effect on helping a runner? Or are they more of a preventive supplement for someone a bit older than 22.

Any advice?

I will make a blanket statement and say none of those type products will improve cardiovascular fitness... so for a runner they are of no value to performance...

Fish and Omega-3 Fatty Acids

well interesting insight on eating fish after a workout..i know they are a good source of protein..but would it hurt if fish oil is consumed? i am a vegetarian and i do plan to move to eating just fish purely because of its health benefits...but i am still taking my time..how about cod liver oil in the meanwhile till i completely make up my mind to eat fish...

You can find Omega 3 fatty acids in vegetable form, like borage oil or flax seed oil. You do not need to incorporate fish

oh flax seed oil is a great one...serves perfect for women aho also suffer from PMS..i do have a bottle of flax seed oil..it does keep my mood right...till i move to completely eating fish :):)

you gotta go nuts!
try eating 30-40g of a mix of walnuts, almonds and pistachios 1 to 2 hours before running and you'll see what I mean!

If you're a fish lover then you can get your omega 3's from fish like sardine, mackerel and salmon.

If not then I suggest you take a supplement form 3-4x a week

This is true that fish oil is effective for health. I do not know about others as i normally use natural medicine. But what i like to ensure you that it would not affect the athlete in negative way. It just increase the more blood flow in your heart.

You are very young and it would definitely help you to increase the number of blood flow and make you healthy.

Always take them - they've helped me :)
