First Week Weight Loss

I am a very big guy, 5'11, 364 pounds- 25 years old. I finally decided to lose the weight for health reasons (very high blood pressure). i've been eating much healthier, and have really cut down on portions -and doing 30 minutes of cardio daily. I've lost about 20-22 pounds in this first week, and i was just wondering if that was healthy - and since i'm so big, it wouldn't be as bad as if someone 150 pounds less than me did this.

I've been feeling alright overall, just a little lack of energy at times (head feels heavy). but have been drinking plenty of water. Thank you for your help.

22lbs is a bit excessive. You should be losing 3-4 lbs a week for a "healthy" loss for someone of your size.

With that said, most of that 22lbs is probably waterweight. You said you reduced your calorie intake...what did you reduce it to? Too low can do more harm than good...

i checked it a bit later, and it's actually 20 pounds that i've lost. as for my daily caloric intake, i'd say its approximately 1500

as for 3 to 4 pounds a week- on the Biggest Loser i remember seeing people my size losing 15-20 pounds in their first week.

I loathe the Biggest Loser for exactly this reason. You CANNOT compare yourself to the contestants on the show. You simply cannot. What they are doing is extreme - they are in a controlled environment, under the supervision of trainers and nutritionists, working out for hours upon hours a day. What they do and what they achieve is not normal ... and I don't believe it's healthy or sustainable, long term.

I'm surprised at 20 lbs in a week - but I also wonder what it is you are eating now vs what you were eating. It is possible to lose 10+ lbs of water weight and bloat at your weight, especially if your diet was high in sodium and processed chemicals.

I do agree that 1500 calories is too little for you. At your height/weight, I'd recommend that you double that. By my calculations, you could eat 3500 and probably still lose weight, to be honest.

though, there is a tidbit that i forgot to mention. I am taking a blood pressure med called Alavide, which is part diuretic. I guess this may be part of the reason that i lost so much water weight in the first week.

As for my caloric intake, i'm not starving myself. Eating plenty of fruits between the day between meals.
