First time post: A lot of questions!

Hi Everyone,

This is my first time post and I've got a lot of questions I want to ask. These questions are rather simple, I just want to get an opinion I guess.

I am planning to purchase a Spin Bike and I want to know how I can get the most out of it.

How many times should I exercise on it a day? How long each exercise? What type of cycling should I do? Just gentle cycling throughout the whole training period or an interval one or something else?

What time do you believe is the best time for training? I work Full time 8 30 to 5 Monday to Friday. Should I exercise in the morning? After work? Before I sleep? After or Before meals?

What type of other exercise should I be doing to get like a full body work out?

I know I asked a lot for a newbie that just joined 15mins ago, I would really appreciate your time and answers though..

Thanks in advance!!

I don't own a spinning bike, but I use them at two different gyms. Personally, I think a spinning bike, used by yourself, would be tedious, boring and prone to failure (the spinner, not the bike). These are very simple machines with no thing to motivate the rider.

I think you'd be much better off joining a gym and attending their spin classes or buying a good quality stationary bike or, even better, buying a road or mountain bike and going outside.

As for the other questions, the more exercise you can do a week, without going overboard, the better. I exercise 5 or 6 days a week and many on this forum do the same. You can stay healthy however with 3x weekly for 30min each session, getting the heart rate into the 70% of max heart rate.

As for full body workouts, there are lots and lots of posts on this subject and some sticky notes too as I recall. Gyms would have all the equipment to effect these. If you work out at home, it takes a little more imagination and ingenuity.

You don't say much about yourself (age, sex, general health, how athletic you currently are, etc.). If you are already fairly athletic, you can jump right into HIIT on the bike. Spin classes will do this as well. If you are not real athletic, you will have to build up a base with slower, steady, long sessions first.

I always eat 1 - 2 hours before hard workout. Otherwise, I'm likely to hurl.

hi g8r80,

thanks for you reply, I am male... 21...

I'm not really a big fan of gyms, I live quite a distance away from the closest one and finding a parking is quite horrible..

when i was in highschool i was quite athletic, but that was like 5 years ago now..

i used spin bikes before and i quite enjoy the feel for it... thats why i wanna purchase one... even though its quite expersive compared to other bikes, but i am willing to make that investment..

for some reason or from somwhere i heard.. it is good to exercise in the morning before u have breakfast which contradicts what u say g8r80.. someone?

what time of the day do you suggest exercising?
what type of exercise?
