So I am a manager at a retail store and to make things a little more fun we have a giant easel and we write different topics up there. A couple weeks ago we started with the heading What was your first tape, cd, record, etc. and the results we got were rather interesting so I figured I would start that thread here as well

SO here it goes:

What was your first cd, tape, record, etc?

Mine was the Spice Girls on CD (I was in 6th grade)

Dr. Feelgood - Mötley Crüe (fourth grade)

I had so much stuff on vinyl...
hard to say what was first - probably either springsteen's the wild the innocent the estreet shuffle, greetings from asbury park or aerosmirh

and then 8 track.. i had lots of bee gees stuff...

then cassettes

then cd's

awww no 8track? 8-track just gets no love.. .and it was really cool technology too - far better than a cassette...

I love the Monkeys. I was thinking of getting the series on DVD for my kids.

oh yea, I'd do it! Theres not too many shows on TV anymore that doesn't have some degree of sex or other immoral things in it anymore! Even the very popular "High School Musical" has some sections where I think a little too much sexuality is expressed :(

And that's why I don't have TV. Everything the kids watch is DVD, so I have the final say in it. Of course the schools now are showing those movies during indoor recess or something. High School Musical isn't bad, but it needs to be stressed to a third grader that this is High School.

A 45 of Ricky Scaggs "Honey wont you open that door" I was 5. The funny thing is that all through high school and such I thought that it was hilarious that I had a Ricky Scaggs record but when I was mid 20's I got into blue grass and realised he is one of the greatest musicians of his generation. I had good taste in kindergarten. The next one I remember is Guns N Roses "Lies" I actually saved my money for that one when I was in 5th grade.

OMG! Do you really expect me to think back that far?

The first record I purchased with my own money was "Run D MC - Tougher than Leather." That would have been 1983 or thereabouts.

I can't remember the first record/tape I had that someone else got for me. Probably nothing because I taped things from the radio.

To my shame it was a Boyzone singles CD called Love Me for a Reason...mortifying! First album was Erasure! I had very poor taste back then!

I still have about 200+ vinyls. I need to get a new player, though.

You should get a Crosley player from Target. The one I work at has them for $88. They play records, cds, tapes, etc. We got one for my in-laws for Christmas and they are really nice.

Hmm...

Bought for me was a cassette of Queen's Greatest Hits.

First I saved up and bought was the Crash Test Dummies' God Shuffled his Feet on cassette.

Just to contrast with my taste now - the last album I bought was Opeth's new album (Watershed) on CD and the last track I paid for was Michael Giacchino's Roar from Cloverfield on Itunes.
