Feel like crap - Lost my grey cockatiel :(

Yesterday I was grilling and I absentmindlessly walked outside with my cockatiel on my shoulder. I hear a fluttering and look up into a pine tree and there she was :( I ran and got a ladder but by the time I got back she had moved up even higher in the tree where the ladder couldn't go because there were too many branches. It's cold out and she was perched with one leg looking around looking super confused. I tried calling her and enticing her with a box of cereal (her favorite snack) but to no avail. Something spooked her and she freaked and flew right over the house and into the top of a huge tree in the front yard. She then kept on flying and I didn't see her anymore. I heard her screaming (if anyone else knows what a cockatiel sounds like) but couldn't see her. I stopped hearing her and now I have no idea where she is
:( I feel awful. It snowed over night and I can't believe she's gone. I posted on all the lost cockatiel websites and made some flyers which I am going to put out today. I don't know if she can survive this weather :(

Sorry to hear that.

Thanks guys...

Jaack - Yeah, I'm an animal lover too and now that she's not here the house seems so empty :( I just wanted to hear something from some other people who understand because I don't really have anyone to talk to about this. Some people just don't understand how you can be so sad over a "bird". She has been here with me through the last few months when I moved around a lot and kept me company. It was great to have her around and now I feel like I abandoned her but letting her fly outside into the cold :(

Again, I'm so sorry. It's tough when you love your pet so much. ((HUGS))
