Fat Intake

jus wondering how much fat an average person needs to eat compared to a bobybuilder or a marathin runner you know? does it change and if so is fish oil better then keeping a healthy fat count daily.

i wouldnt think it would change much at all. "essential" fatty acids are essential because they need to be supplied throught the meal plan, our body cant make them. usual recommendations for fat intake are b/w 20 and 30% which isnt hard to come by

if you eat a lot of fish normally, particularly salmon, you probably don't need fish oil caps, as long as your total fat intake is in the 20-30% range like Abear mentions.

I know myself, personally, when I start eating clean, my fat intake plummets to 15% of daily calories, so I take some EFA pills, a little peanut butter, or add almond slices as a snack.

Since there's 9cals in a gram of fat, vs 4cals in a gram of carbs or protein, a little fat goes a long way, so increasing fat intake to 25% is really quite easy.

actually, I think cod liver oil capsules are not a good source. If i am remembering correctly, cod liver oil only contains one kind of Essential fatty acid, and it's the one most people have no problems getting enough of (whatever is in peanuts, omega 3 I think)...so its not really 'the best'.

I know cod liver tabs are a lot cheaper than the EFA tabs I get, which don't mention cod oil as their source.
