Sport Facts about Protein

Sport Fitness
Apparently ...

"A protein-based meal will elicit a thermic effect that is close to 30 percent of the total calories itself"

"This means that if you have a protein-based meal of 600 calories, you'll burn 180 calories just by eating it. This is largely due to digestive processes as well as the extra energy the liver requires to assimilate and synthesize the amino acids in protein."

Interesting ... is this accurate? Should it change the way calories are counted regardless of whether you are planning on cutting or bulking?

It changes nothing.

yes its a known fact that the body has to work harder to burn protein than carbs for energy. That's why low carb diets work (to an extent).

it has zero bearing on how calories are counted.
it does have bearing on how you should split up fat, carb and protein intake...and that still varies on the individual.

carbs are the devil for me. so when I cut, I go pretty heavy on the protein and cycle my carbs, never exceeding 150g on a loading day, and more like 50g on a no carb day (and 30 of those grams would come from fiber...so like 1 small bowl of oatmeal, and then only veggies the rest of the day)
