Extremely fussy eater, coming off 10 bags of crisps a day... (UK)

Hey everyone! I'm doing this because I have had enough. When I was a kid, I ate a healthy balanced diet. I was overweight, not by much, and when I got to around 17 I started to suffer with depression on and off for years. This led to binge eating: I ended up eating purely junk food, and two cooked meals a day (chips and chicken nuggets/popcorn chicken) because it's all I like.

Fast forward to now, and I am 27. I am 18 Stone, and I'm tired of it. I buy crisps so often, that I had a stash of them in my bedroom. Whenever I am off, I would sit and eat them all day (along with chocolate) and have one meal a day. It got to last week, when I decided this was going to end.

My partner is overweight too, and she's struggling to lose it because of the junk I had. I have tried to cut down in the past but due to my limited diet, being an extremely fussy eater, it was easier to stay where I was. But i've realised if I keep this up, I will die. I am currently seeking the means to finish this, permanently and by doing so live a happy and healthy life. I'm getting married in the end of August, and I want to lose 3 stone by then.

It's day 3 since I binned all the crisps in our house. There's barely any chocolate: I am concentrating on crisps primarily first, as soon as I have got through the withdrawals I should be okay to carry on and reduce further. Cutting crisps out by itself is massive: As I say, for years I have been chowing down on them.

I'm looking for the following in joining this site, as I believe I am one of the very few people to have a diet like this, having only seen a couple of articles online about this sort of eating:

-Support in losing the weight.
-Keeping my motivation.
-Stories of people who have done what I have, and gone on to lost the weight.
-Any professional means I can access, via a doctor/healthcare that would enable me to not only lose the weight but keep it off.
-If one of the options I could do, involved something like hypnotherapy or even going as far as using weight loss centers.
-Good options when it comes to losing weight, for fussy eaters.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Jack.
Where in the UK are you? I'm in Newcastle upon Tyne.

You are not nearly as unusual as you think... Lots of people go onto binge eating and eat a lot of junk food.

Giving up crisps is a brilliant step forward.

Stick with the forum and work hard and I see no reason why you shouldn't drop 3 stone before the wedding at the end of August.

I strongly advise you to try to drink 2 litres of water a day... If you can drink 3 litres that would be better - but 2 litres would be a very good step.
All those crisps will have been putting a lot of salt into your system and that causes your weight to go up. Drinking water will help to flush it out - so actually helps you lose some weight at the scales.

Also it is easier to think about having to have something - takes your mind a bit off what you are trying not to have.

Water also helps to fill you up so there are tons of really good reasons why it would be a good idea.

If you can - also get into the habit of going out for a walk. I think that a pedometer helps to challenge me to be more active.

I suggest that you check out the challenges and clubs - they may give you ideas of things to work on and help you to keep motivated into doing them...

Also start a diary and log your progress... Visit other people's diaries to see what they are doing and cheer them on - with luck some people will visit you and cheer you on too...

Good luck with your project.

Hey thanks for the reply, I am in Redcar and Cleveland of North East England.

I pretty much figured that what made me so unusual was the fact of me just eating one meal, chicken and chips. Like anywhere I go, that will be what I eat... As far as the walking goes, I actually do that already as I walk our dogs everyday. I also drink a LOT of water, perhaps even four litres a day... So that should be a lot better now that I am not eating the crisps. Thanks for the suggestions, I will do all of them, take care!

Excellent! You are near me - and doing some good things already :hurray:

I think that it is brilliant that you are making healthy changes - and it should make it easier for your bride to make healthy changes too...

Tell her to join the forum too. :biggrinjester:

Lots of people get a bit stuck in a rut - we do a lot of things more through habit than anything else... Some people can have difficulty making changes...

If it is any encouragement - you can still eat some sort of chicken and chips every day if you find that you really want...

Chicken is a really healthy form of protein. It becomes healthier if you remove the skin as that is a fatty part. Then it is all down to how you cook it - but basically if you use fry light instead of fat and don't go in for high calorie sauces you should be good.

I have a feeling that I put the "Slimming World chips" recipe on here about a decade ago.. I'll see if I can spot it...
Basically par boil potatoes - then cut into chip shaped wedges... Then cook in the oven having sprayed the dish and chips with fry light.

Having said that - if you challenge yourself to try new things - you may find a whole heap of healthy things that you like.
