Exercise for someone with pain conditions.

Hi everyone. Me and my wife are trying to find a workout we both can do. She has a condition which causes her whole body pain. Some days its bad some days its not so bad. She's been getting better since we got married but its still there. Anyways we were trying to go to the gym and just do cardio and such but we are poor and can't afford the gas it takes to drive 10 miles to the gym 4-5 days a week.

she can't really run on pavement. She has a very difficult time lifting even very light weights. She used to work out a lot before she was stricken with the pain she has now and apparently running on treadmills and doing the bycicle and eliptical (however you spell that) was the best for her to lose weight. Unfortunately its quite hard to go to the gym and even harder to find a workout which we can do at home that she can also do.

I was thinking of insanity but I don't think she has the upper body strength now to do even a couple pushups let alone all the crazy stuff on there. I don't care what we do as long as we both can do it together to lose weight. We have changed our diets of course but we still want something to speed up the weight loss process.

I was also looking for old folks (60+) workouts but I couldn't find much. She is kind of like an old person the way her body is now.

Any help?

Have you considered walking? Pool exercise can be excellent for people dealing with a lot of pain... is there a pool (or lake) nearby that you could use?

As for nutrition, I often recommend this article: http://body-improvements.com/resources/eat/ It's long, but well worth the read.

Have you tried looking up senior yoga, or even just relaxation yoga videos? Or something like tai chi? Have you searched for "senior fitness" on youtube?
