Sport excessive protien

Sport Fitness
Is there a such thing as "too much protien"????. I normally been consuming 100-150g per day and i work out 6 times per week.

The body can only digest up to a certain amount of protein. The leftover is mostly excreted through urine and some can be stored as fat.

hey i need to consume 288 grams of protein(durring all the day 48grams per meal (6)), is that too much?? does my kidney is very forced by that consume? and does protein can store as fat!?? and the muscles??!

288g or protein at your current body weight does sound a bit high.

That's how much I consume daily but I weigh 200lbs and I don't work out 5 hrs a day.

:)

damn because i read a book of body building that something like this :

PROTEIN 40%

multiply your weight by 18

161 x 18 = 2898 ( that will be the calories)

2898 x 0.4 = 1159.2 (amount of protein then divided by 4)

1159.2 / 4 = 289.8 (grams of protein a day)

289.8 / 6 = 48 grams (divided the total meals and that will give you the total amount of grams of protein per meal..)

Carbs 30%

multiply your weight by 18

161 x 18 = 2898 ( that will be the calories)

2898 x 0.3 = 869.4 (amount of carb then divided by 4)

869.4 / 4 = 217 (grams of carb a day)

217 / 6 = 36 grams (divided the total meals and that will give you the total amount of grams of carb per meal..)

FAT 30%

multiply your weight by 18

161 x 18 = 2898 ( that will be the calories)

2898 x 0.3 = 869.4 (amount of fat then divided by 4)

869.4 / 9 = 96 (grams of fat a day)

86 / 6 = 16 grams (divided the total meals and that will give you the total amount of grams of fat per meal..)

The guide tell me to do that i do it and base my diet in that do you think is very high in all that or it is ok?

I get about 200g of protein. But I am bulking.

It should be fine, nothing BAD can happen if you have tooo much, so don't worry too much about it.

=P

You've got to be kidding me! Excess protein is not good for the body!! It is hard on the kidneys to break down protein so you must make sure your fluid intake is high.
It is associated with increased calcium excretion which is necessary for healthy bones and muscle contractions.
Plus depending on what type of protein you intake you can increase your risk of heart disease or more recently colorectal cancer!!

I would say get 70g of protien from real foods and the rest from whey protien that way the stomach can digest it better. Also for people who weight lift 1 gallon of water is the minimum. 70% of muscle is made of water so think about that.

doctor peter lemon who is referred to as the godfather of protein research has shown over the last 20 or so years that much of the concern over high protein intakes only refers to those with pre-existing conditions. it is well known that those who train have higher needs for protein than sedentary individuals. one gram per pound of bodyweight is a good guideline to shoot for.

*agrees with LV and abear* unless you have a pre-existing kidney problem, you have little to worry about. of course you could always talk to your doctor to see if you are at risk

1 gram per pound is a great guideline. But if you are bulking and looking for the POTENTIAL to gain more...not a promise, i'd go with the 1.5 grams per pound.

I'm not a fitness guru by any means, but I have to contradict the 1g / pound of body weight for a protein guideline. The formula in everything I read is 1 gram / pound of LEAN body mass. If you weigh 250lbs, but are 25% body fat you would only require 187 grams. Thats a far cry from 1g / pound, or 250.

This is true, but people like simple. One gram/pound of body weight is easier, especially considering most people don't know their bodyfat percentage. If you know your bodyfat percentage, I would probably go with 1.25 or 1.5g/lb of lean mass, IF you wanted to gain muscle.

peter lemon states .8 grams per kilogram of bodyweight and he has said this might not be adequate
