Hey All... I'm new to the forums here and wanted to get some opinions on getting back into shape. First, a little background on me... I am 28 years old 5'11 and approx 195 lbs. I was a state finalist in the pole vault in high school and went on to compete in college for 4 years. At that time, I was 150-160 pounds and in good shape. I gave up running and working out due to being drained from the previous 9 years of competing and working out 6 days a week. I basically just wanted some time off. Well, I unfortunately wasn't able to get back into the groove of things and have been gaining weight ever since. I've been around 190 for almost a year now and I really want to get back into shape. I was a track coach this season and decided that it was time for me to get back into things and start competing again.
So, here's what I wish to accomplish. 1. LOSE WEIGHT!!! Ideally I would like to be approx 165-170ish. 2. I'd like to compete again in the vault this summer and for the forseeable future. This means that I need to get some of my speed back (in hs I ran approx 11.2 in the 100).
Should I just be sprinting and lifting? Should I throw in some distance workouts? Does anyone do CrossFit?
I really appreciate any insight you could give. Thank you in advance!
