Everything hurts

Hi everyone,

did some weight training for the first time after not doing any for over a yr or so yesterday...might have overdone it or might just be normal, I just know that my legs and my butt hurt like -

i also did 45mins of spinning in the evening, so that might not have helped.

I was planning on doing an hr of yoga today followed by another spinning session but Im not sure if I should give my muscles a rest...
tomorrow was thinking on doing weights again in the morning, followed by some rope jumping (which I wanted to do today but I think thats def out of the question) and spinning...

what do you think?

thanks

Yeeeeeeah, you really shouldn't be overdoing it like that so soon after coming back. You need to allow your body to rest and recover. Otherwise, there's no gain for everything you're doing.

As great at the workout that you did was, it might be better to take it slow to ease your body back into exercising before you follow that routine again.

Being sore is always a good thing, it means you've worked muscles well, but you should never be in pain. The most common misconception about exercise the way overused phrase "no pain no gain." YOU SHOULD NEVER BE IN PAIN. Without guidance from a certified personal trainer, pushing yourself to the limit of being in pain could potentially do a lot of harm to your body. No workout is worth the risk of hurting yourself for life.

Take your exercises slow at first, gradually building up to an intense routine that leaves your muscles fatigued but not dead. Be sure to stretch well before after you finish your workout, using active stretches (like step-touches, hamstring curls, grapevines or jumping rope) and finishing with static stretches, focusing on the muscles you worked that day. Make sure you're eating a diet that will help nourish your body and muscles, and be sure to give yourself a rest. Just like your brain, your muscles need rest to do better the next day. :)

If you do get overly sore, classes like yoga, pilates and Feldenkrais can help soothe the muscles and stretch them out. This might be a great way to still get a workout in, without exhausting yourself.

Hiya I am so glad I am not the only one!!
I did an exercise video yesterday working on bums and legs and my legs feel like lead today they are sore to even get up and walk etc. After the workout A couple of hours later I did cross trainer for 40 mins, then a very slow swim. I am thinking that Because It is the first time I have done the video this is why I hurt so much. Thing is I didn't know I was going to hurt untill the next day because while I was doing it it felt great!

I wanted to do a yoga class today, but might just go for a slow swim. Its really annoying as I love my exercise and just want to be able to do all i want, without building it up slow, I have no patience lol. sounds like we are in the same boat!

It's easy to get excited about training until your muscles start screaming at you the next day (or day after)! Take your time and build slowly, alternating your workout routines and make sure you have a couple days of rest each week. Good luck!

I really like the pain my muscles give me the next day, it gives me a satisfaction that I know I worked hard. If you want to train lots, do it, whilst it may be better to have more rest if your happy working out more often and that keeps you working out then stick to it, its all about STICKING TO IT
