Ever have a taste for something weird?

So I ruined my diet last Monday when I had some coffee ice cream topped off with pomegranate jam, maple syrup and peanut butter. It tasted so damn good and was exactly what I wanted. Needless to say I didn't lose my 1-2 pounds this week (yeah, I didn't stop at one bowl). Not sure what made me want those four foods but it's not the first time I've wanted seemingly unpalatable things together.

So when you are on your lower than maintance calorie diet (be it carb cycling, carb reducing, fat reducing, whatever) what weird things have you gotten a taste for that you never wanted/thought of when you were eating normally?

At the moment I am carrying a weird craving for tomato soup and a cheese sandwhich with mayo. No idea why, just am.

I once read, in a book on Brain function, that cravings are to some degree your brain telling you to eat a certain food because its lacking a certain mineral or vitamin found in that food.

I like to eat peanut butter sandwiches with orange juice. I take a huge bite of sandwich and then take a gulp of OJ. Something about the combination that makes a weird taste that I like LOL...

I've been craving kid foods- like PB and Jelly Sandwichs or better yet, PB and honey which I haven't had in AGES! Also grilled cheese....yum!

Calcium, oddly enough your ice cream concoction sounds amazing!

I agree with that wholeheartedly. I tend to crave red meats and my sprouted grain bread at the same time. Both are high in iron so I assume that's what I'm low in. Especially since sometimes I'm a little light headed when I'm craving them.

Fitgirl - Oh it was!
