Weight-Loss even weight watchers need some fats?

Weight-Loss
Having been accustomed to eating 4 or 5 "meals" per day since childhood and now cutting down to 3 "half" meals due to portion control, I feel like I am starving mainly in the evenings so I am going to add another light meal in the evening and experiment with this to see how it will affect my weight. My current meal structure is like this:
7.30 am Breakfast- Raisin Bran with Skim Milk
10 am Snack - Usually an orange or apple, sometimes some other fruit
11 am Lunch - Glass of water and salad then lunch.
3.30 pm Dinner - Glass of water and salad then dinner
7.30 pm snack - 1-2 ozs of dry roasted peanuts from the shell.

So at 4pm or so after dinner, I don't really have anything much to sustain me until next morning and going to bed at 10pm means I am going 6 hours without a meal. I am thinking of adding this light meal between 7 and 8 pm

1] Do you guys think this is a good idea? Or do you have a better idea or suggestion?

2] Regarding this light meal, I would usually use a sandwich for this but I have read on many forums that when one is dieting one has to be very careful not to completely cut out fats as the body need some fats to work efficiently. If this is true then I am thinking that maybe I should have something "fatty" or a little "junk" meal? As you all can see, I don't have any junk foods 6 days per week and eat anything on one day but that does not mean that I neccessarily eat junk on that 1 day so am I depriving myself of fats by having some maybe 1 day per week or should I eat a little fat each day while counting calories to make sure my body gets some fat?

Will appreciate any and all inputs/advice here guys, thanks.

Saw a session on NY's CBS news this morning about some lower fat junks foods, in particular, the featured "wholly" donuts, pizza, burgers and baked fries. Looked at their website but could not find any info on it, does anyone know of these foods?

no wonder you are starving! i think maybe you should try a hard boiled egg around 8:30. there's barely any fat in the yolk and what little there is is good fat. but if your too worried about the fat, i find egg whites alone to be very filling. but if you just ate the whites, you would need more than one to fill you up. a hard boiled egg is about 70 calories and an egg white alone is only about 15-17 calories.

sorry, have not heard of those "wholly" foods you mentioned. maybe spelling isnt quite right?

one more thing, do you eat tuna? that has all those omega fats that are good for you and i belive peanut butter does too. but if your going to eat a bit of peanut butter stick with the natural kind even tho it is a pain in the butt to stir up. oh and i apologize for not answering your post sooner, i guess with the thanksgiving holiday and my own dieting i got caught up in other things. so sorry mike!

If you are eatting just that you are nuts! no wonder why you are starving because that's what you're doing to yourself... you are not intaking enough calories, so then your body is going to hang onto the fat because you're not feeding it properly...

not necessarily. we dont know mike's stats or if his diet is under a doctor's supervision. we cant judge without the facts, he might be losing plenty! besides, he said salad THEN dinner and THEN lunch, he just left out what he consumed for those two meals.

Really appreciate the concern and input/advice guys, thank you very much!! You guys have got to have ESP or something, if I am lying with what I am going to tell you next, may God SEND THE LIGHTNING DOWN ON ME! Hope no one is standing next to me:D [just kidding].

Here's the story, from a lot of years of not eating on time and missing meals, when I started getting into my late 30's, I noticed that whenever I miss a meal I would get 'gas' and would have to burp a lot so I started concentrating since then on eating on time, all through my life I have been eating 5-6 meals per day and when I say meals, I don't mean a few crackers! I have always had a very healthy appetite since childhood. SO I was able to prevent myself from getting the gas attacks for the past years.

Since starting with Portion control and then going on the diet mentioned above the gas comes back with a vengeance now and happens maybe once or twice per month, at 1pm or so "today", I told my mom who cooks dinner that I am going back to 5 meals per day, which is why I mentioned your "timing". Incidentally, I had inquired on WEBMD last month about why I get this gas attack when eating less or missing meals and the only explanation I got was that since I am eating a lot of salad now, that my body hasn't gotten accustomed to digesting the salad which may be causing the excess gas, I don't know if this true especially when considering my history with Mr.Gas. I only know what I know, which is, when I miss meals or eat a lot less than I am accustomed to, I get the gas attacks.

The adjusments I am figuring on making right now is to eat 5 meals at 7.30am, 10am, 1pm, 4 pm and 7pm so it should go like this:

7.30 am Breakfast- Raisin Bran with Skim Milk
10 am Snack - an orange or apple with salad
11 am Lunch - Glass of water and then lunch.
3.30 pm Dinner - Glass of water and salad then dinner
7.30 pm snack - 1-2 ozs of dry roasted peanuts from the shell and a sandwich.

The above is just a rough sketch that I was working on all day so I will start with this and readjust as I go along. I would deeply appreciate if any of you guys could either point out anything that may be wrong with this plan or give me suggestions to improve it or both, thanks guys.

mike we might be better able to help if you could tell us exactly what your having for lunch and dinner and how many calories your having. you mentioned the foods, but you dont say how much and how many calories they contain. and what does the 7:30 pm sandwich consist of?

I don't eat the same thing every day so it's kinda hard for me to tell you all what I have for lunch and dinner, I usually have Brown Rice 2 times a day but not every day and sometimes with meat sometimes with Fish, sometimes I have crakers and sometimes soup or something else. I did not have the sandwich last night as planned, had some red grapes and 1-2 ozs dry roasted peanuts.

I did some extensive research into the "gas" issue and everything suggests to me that it is the "healthy" foods that's giving me the excess gas sometimes and not necessarily the lighter meals. This was taken from just 1 article I came across:

"Reducing gas production in the first place is an important step to take. But, since it's impossible to completely prevent all gas (especially if you're eating a healthy diet with fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans), "

it came from this article:

I read more articles and joined a couple of Gastroenterology forums and the advice and results are the same that it is mainly the healthy diet that's causing this. At least I got a few remedies/options from the research that I will try out so that should take care of some of the gas issues. Regarding feeling hungry most of the times, the 5 meals per day worked good yesterday and today, will give it till the end of next week then I'll know better, appreciate the help, thanks.
