Sport Energy Drinks - 300mg caffeine

Sport Fitness
Does any body here use energy drinks before their workouts (sugar/low-cal, of course=])

Wondering if theres a point where it becomes dangerous. I have drank a redbull or two before a football match if ive had a big night the night before, but generally i steer clear from them.
But i recently ive seen a new energy drink called SPIKE SHOOTER. its in a
4.4oz can and contains 300mg of caffeine per serving.

Am i the only one who thinks this could be dangerous before vigourous exercise?

Any thoughts...

I don't subscribe to the school of thought that you have to load your body with carbs or taurine/caffeine or other stimulants nor take Pre Workout shakes, PWO shakes, pre-morning run supplement etc Just do it naturally (IMHO).

it is really a personal thing, if you feel you will benefit from these drinks then of course consume them. However, do not consume too much of these products because everything has side effects, both negative and positive so it is important to remember moderation.

There are some drinks that have very low negatie side effects in comparison to their benefits, so just chose a drink that is more "pro", than "con".

I just have a quick espresso shot about half an hour before gym just to give myself a bit of energy if i'm tired. Otherwise i don't bother. I just stay natural.

I used to. I still do sometimes but I have to be honest, I wonder how much of it is psychological.

At one point I was taking energy pills with high amounts of caffiene and other stimulants in them before a workout. I took three thinking they would act like rocket fuel and they did. I did this for about a week having taken the pills out and put them into tissues to make them easier to put in my bag.

It was only when I got to the end of the week I realised I had been taking Omega 3 oils and no energy pills at all!

It may well work for others but I don't doubt the placebo effect even in myself! As a result I tend to keep them for days when I have had poor sleep and need to stay awake but not so much exercise. I also like that I can claim my workout is my own and not given to me by the curtosy of caffiene :)
