Sport Eggs.... o.O?

Sport Fitness
So I've been creeping around this form for a while and I've been trying to figure out the general opinion on eggs. I'd heard that eggs were really bad for you and you should avoid eating them, but people here seem to be all for them.

My school does things like "make your own omlet" and scrambled eggs for breakfast EVERY day so it's a major part of the meal plan that I dont normally eat. I'm just wondering what makes eggs ok to eat? I don't think I can request egg whites only so it's sort-of all or nothing.

:) Thanks for the help!

the reason a lot of people think eggs are wrong is because of the high ammount of colesterol in them. However, dietary colesterol (colesterol we eat) and the colesterol in our veins (bad colesterol) isn't proportional. The thing is that the body produces colesterol itself and if we eat more of it, the body will lower it's own production accordingly.
However, if you have something wrong with this adjustment, and your body doesn't adjust, then you might have to stay away from eggs. But that's because there's something wrong with you, not the eggs ;)

Good things about eggs:
firstly, they are high in protein and the protein is of very high biological value, you could say it's simular to our own and contains most (if not all, I'm unsure) of the amino acids we need (amino acids are the building blocks of protein. The body breaks down protein we eat and builds up new ones from the amino acids) - simply put.

As far as I know, more recent studies are saying that eating eggs on the regular is OK. The main concern has always been the cholesterol. I have read that dietary cholesterol only contributes about 2% to your overall cholesterol levels. Also, I've read that it can slightly impact LDL (bad cholesterol), but will also impact HDL (good cholesterol) making them overall beneficial. Basically, there's lots to read, so I suggest you just search around and make your own judgement.

ohh cool. :) I always assumed that the cholesterol in the eggs just put that much more into the body and was really bad for you! Thanks for clearing that up!

Looks like I have a new breakfast food to learn to love! :D

Out of curiosity: Omelets, what's good to put in them? Any suggestions?

The egg theory states that eating the white part is good and eating the yellow part is bad because the yellow part has the cholesterol. However, as stated by other members, it simply isn't true that cholesterol taken in from food source has any impact on your own cholesterol. Unless you have doctors orders to reduce cholesterol in your diet, you shouldn't have any trouble eating it.

The benefits as stated are protein sources. Eggs provide the best protein source besides good old whey.

Dont forget that the yoke also has some very nice vitimans and minerals in it like vit A and vit E. Pitty about the 5 grams of fat per egg yoke.

If you don't have a cholesterol problem yourself, I'd just consider it a calorie issue. 5 grams of fat per yolk and 4 eggs each day equals 180 calories just from the yolk fat alone, and it's not high EFA fat either. If you are figuring this into your caloric input for the day and adjusting, no problem really.

The great thing about egg protein is that it's not as fast digesting as whey, so it stays with you longer. If you want egg protein but not the yolk, powdered egg whites are great.

If this is the best source of morning protein you have available under the circumstances you described, might want to consider putting this in your diet plan. Just don't go nuts, and add EFA's to your supplements.

Isn't the cholesterol the problem w/ the yolk? If you're eating 4-5 eggs per day that is.

I eat 5-6 boiled eggs a day. The cholestrol is only a problem if high blood pressure and cholestrol problems have been an issue in your family and are genetic.

The yolk contain the most important nutrients. When ever someone says something bad about eggs, i show them this:
Ok, I'm in my 5th month on the Anabolic Diet during which time I've eaten 12- 15 whole eggs, 3/4 of a pound of ground beef, a quarter cup of real butter and 8 ounces of regular cheddar and monterey jack cheese EVERY SINGLE DAY, well 5 days a week

I did some research because I don't trust anybody who's hand is out for my money at face value and found out by all accounts that the Cholestrak home cholesterol testing kit is considered to be very accurate for total cholesterol levels when used as directed.

I've been testing myself for glucose for a while now and have some idea of how these types of things are done so didn't think that would be a problem. I ran up to CVS and bought a package of these.

Long story short my total cholesterol read 118 on the first test which I repeated because not even I could believe it was really that low. Second test (there's 2 in the box) 121.

So either I'm a genetic miracle who should donate his body to science so that the study of my exceptional anatomy can be used to save millions of lives or at least some significant slice of the population DOES NOT HAVE THEIR DAMN SERUM LEVELS RISE DANGEROUSLY BECAUSE OF DIETARY INTAKE.

That's 3 to 5 GRAMS... GRAMS... GRAMS a day and mine is good for a perfectly healthy and well fed 10 year old.

The ldl/hdl etc. breakdown is almost certainly meaningless with levels this low.

So the debate is over FOR ME. I'm not suggesting that anybody else should construe what I'm saying as anything more than what it says. Don't rely on anybody else for this kinda thing test yourself or have yourself tested. .
TMAGNUM FORUMS - Undeniable Cholesterol Data

I also believe that if you eat 5 boiled eggs a day, lots of red meat, etc and you are inactive, don't exercise intensely or weight train that yes you will suffer in health, but people who are in healthy and fit condition shouldn't have much to worry.

thats gross...
