Sport Egg Whites Vs Yolks

Sport Fitness
I'm just curious, I know that body builders have egg whites for the protein and skip the yolk, but why do Boxers in particular drink egg yolk? Whats the upside to drinking the yolk instead of just eating it? And, do they eat the egg white aswell?

Thanks in advance

Jez

yolks get a bad rap. depends on what you want, protein only do the whites. if the fat in a yolk fits into your meal plan, do the whole egg

i do 4 whole eggs and 2 whites a day myself :)

I was told that the yolk has half the protein of the egg, but people don't eat it because of the calories and everything.
Is this true? Has anyone else heard this?

I have heard that if you dont eat all the egg your wont get as many amino acids to but also if you eat the whole egg it will be higher in calories and cholesterol i believe.

The egg whites carry about 3.5 grams of protein. However, we've come a long way since the 80's and I don't think to many boxers are still drinking the yokes.

First of all, it's YOLK, not yoke.

The yolks are "bad" because they contain cholesterol. Eating them in large quantities is thought to raise the levels of bad cholesterol in your blood. Eating a few a week, though, is perfectly fine.

Also, you're comparing apples and oranges. Body builders are trying to build a perfect physique...boxers are less concerned about their body appearance, more concerned over performance (just look at George Foreman's fights at the end of his career...chunky, but still a good boxer).

I tend to limit my yolk consumption just to avoid excess cholesterol. I'll take 5-6 eggs, but only keep 2 yolks...the rest are whites. This is about 20-25g of protein, and you get all the amino's with less fat.
