Sport Ectomorph diet?

Sport Fitness
Hi All,

I am 186 cms and weigh about 71 Kgs. So I'm tall and have really low body fat %, only lean muscle. I read in many articles and in videos that if you're an ectomorph you need to eat a lot, is it true? Like, I workout hard but then maybe I don't eat enough and don't have material for muscle growth? So ofcourse I'm not talking about Junk food, I don't eat junk food, I mean generally, like Pasta and meat and Milk, can I have plenty? I don't mean fill my self like a pig ofcourse, I am careful at what I eat, but I wonder if I should eat a little more.
I am just obsessed and afraid of getting fat even if in 20 years I never have. My abs are my favourite part and I don't want anything to prevent their definition so I'm afraid to eat more and gain even a tad of fat. Ah I donow... Opinions?
Thankyou

IMO, body type (endo/ecto/meso-morph) is 99% irrelevant. Your goals are what matters. If you want to be bigger, eat more. If you want to be smaller, eat less. If you want to be the same shape and size, eat the same.

So, Famas, what is your goal? If your goal is simply to maintain your good physique, I don't see any reason to change what you're currently eating, or how much of it you're consuming. But if you want more muscle mass (which, from another of your threads I've just commented on, sounds like it's the case), it's going to be very difficult to achieve that without gaining some fat. Given your current stats, you can probably get a fairly optimal balance of muscle:fat as you grow, but by the looks of you, I don't think you'll be gaining any muscle mass without at least some fat mass alongside it.

Your best bet, if you want to try and preserve your abs as much as possible while building muscle, would be a very slow bulk, aiming to gain only 1-2kg/month. This leaves minimal room for fat growth, but it will also potentially slow down the rate at which you gain muscle mass. There's also the problem that your scale weight normally fluctuates by a couple kilos each day anyway, making it hard to track progress on the scale alone. Taking girths and skin folds will make it a bit easier to track, but don't expect to see any huge differences in your circumferences each month with only 1-2kg change in weight.

My personal opinion, for those who want to look good year round, is that they should set a bf% range that they're happy to be in. 8-12% is good for most guys...some might even push it from 8-16% if they can get away with it. Go through phases of bulking until you reach 12% (or whatever number leaves you with faintly toned abs rather than shredded abs), then cutting until you're back down to 8%. You will look good 365 days a year, but if you take that route, the definition in your abs will change throughout that range.

^Man, Thankyou so much for repling with such a helpful post! :)

I Will also go and read the other reply now and then try and conclude.

You we're clear, I understand. It's so complicated is it not? *lol*

Just seems like it sucks but after all it makes sense. It's like, I wanna get bigger slowly as I'm training to arms and chest and back and everything, but I don't want food to ruin abs, it maybe even won't too much but I don't know.

Anyhow Thankyou again I'll go read the other reply now :)

Agreed. Most people don't realise this and that's why they live in fat bodies their entire lives.

^LoL

For the record, reading me 25 days ago, heck it seems like much longer...

In the end I took my decision and I am eating a heck of a lot more now =) Especially Post workout. It's the only way to gain some muscle, otherwise I was never going to make it, due to eating not enough, overtraining and not recovering properly.
