Eating Well + Exercise = WEIGHT GAIN?!?!

Hey guys.. About a year ago i was at my ideal weight of 130, then i moved into an apartment with my junk food eating, soda drinking, couch potato boyfriend (There's more to him than that but for the sake of the argument.. shush!) Needless to say i stopped being so strict and went up to 135 over 12-15 months. Now, when i got down to 130 i was living in a very stressful environment with my alcoholic mother and didn't exercise at all but kept active. I was very unhappy with how out of control i felt living with her that i have to assume i was so into my nutrition and eating so i could feel some sense of control.

Now that i'm out of there and am happy i've let my healthy eating fall by the way side. I decided it was time to make a change (I was always heavy as a kid/teenager and gain weight easily. It's terrifying to think i'll go above 140) I joined a gym two weeks ago and have been going Monday-Friday and doing an hour of cardio each day. I've also been eating a lot of protien, whole grains, healthy fats, and drinking 2-3 cups of green tea a day. But today when i stepped on the scale for my weekly weigh in, i had gained 2 pounds!

My co-worker said this is normal since i'm putting on muscle but i really was not expecting this at all.

How does someone go from being a couch potato who over eats everyday at 135 to someone who works out an hour everyday and eats 1,2000 calories strictly and weighs 137?!

I know it's about "how you feel" and being fit and not necessarily being skinny or what the scale says but the number is always most important to me.

AOne thing to consider is that it does take a far greater time to lose weight than gain it. 2 pounds can be something simple. If you had a large meal and a few glasses of water before working out, that is going to effect your weight. I bottle of water weighs a pound!

Try not to freak out and be patient. I'm sure you'll get your results very soon. :)
