Weight-Loss

Ok, to shorten my story about 1 1/2 or so ago I was 400 pounds. I am now 195 or so, and for the longest time the way I have been doing things has been working fine. But I am trying to lose more weight (185 is goal). I am EXTREMELY active, I will list my schedule here.

Breakfast usually consists of about a Cup of Cereal and (skim) milk, with a glass of orange juice. Considering I eat lunch only a short time later it is why I don't eat much there.

160 Cereal
110 Juice

270

Lunch - A Wrap with w/e deli meats we got in the house, with a slice of cheese, we usually buy low sodium ham (my fav ) and I would usually bring a banana or some cheerios.

Wrap 110
Ham x3 (piece) 90
Cheese - 90
Banana/Cherrios 90

so 380

Dinner is all random, I could have something good or bad, it all depends, though my family does it healthy most of the time, but I'd say dinner usually has rice, which is about (my serving size anyway) 80 Cals + I have some sort of desert its winter now so usually a mug of hot cocoa, or some ice cream! (120)

Considering dinner is always the biggest meal Im going to say (with desert + rice included) so possibly 500-1000 its all random I'm afriad.

So lets say 800

380
270
800

1450 total

I have read injesting to little puts your body in stravation mdoe and it preseres what it has despite what Im burning off...Im just need a positive "Ok" before I start injesting more Im afriad to gain more weight, after being what I was I'm just scared you know..? I had a test done saying I could injest 2400 cals or so w/o gaining weight by my lifestyle.

Please i'd appreciate suggestions.

P.s. sorry for bad grammer..in a rush XD

I agree that this seems a low amount for your weight. Are you gaining or losing on this amount? How about increasing your calories every week by 100 calories per day (1550 week 1, 1650 week 2) until you get to 2000 without gaining weight. Eat at maintenance for a few weeks and then start cutting again. I think this is the approach Steve recommends and it seems to make sense.

Did you get the RMR test to measure the 2400 calories?

I must say, I'm majorly impressed with your weight loss thus far. Good for you!

I am STUCK actually around 194-196 area
I THINK it was called an RMR test, I've had 2 of those done, one at my local gym, and another on a cruise I went on (for a second opinion) both came up with the same (or close to same) results.

To take the RMR test you breathe into a machine for 10 minutes. What did you do for your test?

I'm no expert but I dont think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out that your metabolism is slower than it should be considering you're just under 2000 pounds but can only eat 1450 per day, yet you're not losing anything. From what I've read, you can fix your metabolism by increasing your calories steadily but in small amounts as I suggested above, or you can start varying your calories everyday. Like say 2 times per week at 1450 and a few days higher, with one day far higher (called a refeed).

Do you get hungry on your calorie allotment?

Not being a doctor, I believe your leptin levels are low or you are leptin resistant which has caused your metabolism to conserve its fuel and slow down (leptin is the hormone produced by your fat cells that regulates your metabolism and hunger).

You dont want to live the rest of your days eating so little, and you also want to continue losing more weight. So I would think you want to take a step back and fix your metabolism.

A good idea is to eat 5-6 meals in a day, so a snack in the morning, a snack in the afternoon and maybe a snack after dinner. This will increase your calories (say if a snack is 200-300 calories, your calories will be up closer to where they should be) and also help increase your metabolism. I would definately say you are not eating nearly enough especially considering your activity level.

I usually eat between 2100-2400 calories/day, but what i try to do is to eat most of my calories early in the day...that way i am burning off what i've eaten through regular daily activies and also through my exercise (which i do in the late afternoon/early evening before supper).

Great job on the weight loss so far!

More frequent feedings does not = an increase in metabolic rate.

Actually i have to disagree, it does increase your metabolism. This is the reason why it is important to eat breakfast in the morning..after fasting all night your metabolism needs a kick start and eating gets your metabolism going for the day. Your metabolism slows during the night when you are not active.

I didn't say eating breakfast wasn't important.

I said eating more frequently does not result in an increase in metabolic rate.

So do you have a word of advice for meh Steve :)?

Thank you all for comments, its helping. :cheers2:
